  1. About 8 years ago the Leafs fully tanked, essentially inheriting Mathews, Marner, et al. by simply making those obvious draft choices. Since then management has proceeded to add no goalie of note, zero defenders of note, zero depth scoring or checking line of note.
In conclusion, the Leafs have overachieved to this point, considering they don’t have anything past the players they basically inherited when they tanked.

  2. The legal slap shot goal – was just a celebration, the same as a bat toss in a baseball game. Does Ottawa cross check Matthews to the head – in a future game, the next time Matthews celebrates a goal – just to get even with Morgan?😀I would love to see a Michigan scored into an empty net. No point in being poor Leaf sportsmen and Leaf losers. The Leafs should focus on getting out of being tied in points – in their bottom Wildcard spot.😀

  3. Even in minor hockey, you would learn that winding up for a slapshot on an empy net like that is absolutely disrespectful and classless. I love to see Mo show some passion..it was a little too high but buddy had to know he had it coming..

  4. It's not a "hotdog move", it was total disrespect. Fuck around and find out, kids!

  5. If Ottawa played like that every night, they’d be a playoff team. Weird how they only show up against the Leafs and a few other teams. The slapshot into the empty net was douchey. Reilly will get in some trouble. Bad referee as well. Oh well, it’s onto the next one.

  6. Leafs is a club with no sense! They are finished. Forget about it fans. My apologies . Sore losers . He took a slapshot ..big deal..kid was excited.
You dont cross check to thr head from behind. Pathetic!

  7. One of these was a legal play, the other was a cross-check to the head after a goal…. this isn't a difficult equation to figure out.

  8. A call on the high stick on McCabe would of changed the game big time, that' the second game on a row that there is no call on him . Rielly is absolutely right I don't care if he get a suspension , that sh$$ head deserved it !!!

  9. "hes a bit of a diver" Show the play then and let people judge for themselves. You can see the stick inbetween his legs, flexing and everything. The dude who got called was watching his pass instead of controlling his stick.

  10. If you play hockey you know that slapping it into the empty net.. you got it coming. its extremely disrespectful

  11. Easy answer, Tavares, hated that trade to Leafs – screws up five times to one good play, not worth the money he is paid but they keep him

  12. You seem to be equating a slap shot into an empty net with a cross check to the head. Wow! One is a celebration and one is a violent and dangerous act. The dangerous act is worth 3 games.

  13. First point of contact was the shoulder 1 game max if the league uses the Mathews standard.

  14. He should be fined ,charged with assault and suspended. That was not a hockey play that was an assault out of anger and frustration period. I’m sick of this shit in hockey and I am losing interest in the sport because of it. I have been watching hockey for 50 years and these cheap shots need to have serious consequences. Wake up NHL this stuff should not be tolerated.

  15. A slap shot is still hockey but Rielly is a vicious stupid cross check, a suspension for 10 games and Leafs will out of playoff!

  16. So, let me get this straight. You think it's a big no-no, a "hot dog move" to emphatically score an empty net goal against your rival, but you're a little unsure if a blatant hit to the head is worse?

I'd be pissed too, if my rival buried an empty netter against my team, but have some class.

I hope Rielly gets 3+ games. Bone head move.

  17. You cannot seriously put Morgan Riley's and Ridley Greg's actions as canceling each other out. Sure was a hot dog move by Ridley but then again this is the Battle of Ontario. But hitting a guy in the head with your stick? Especially with five seconds left in a game you are going to lose? That's got to be 5 to 8 games if you ask me. If not let's bring in Dale Hunter as the head of player safety

  18. Anyone who thinks crosschecking to the head is in the right isnt a hockey fan. It isnt a hockey play and under no situation is a cross check to the head the right thing. Suspension. Yes.

  19. We have young players coming in the leaque that have no class at all and scoring on a slapshot into an empty net and about the leafs step up to Ridley with the response by Morgan reilly. Whick I believe about time the leaque looks at the garbage officating in the leaque that leads to scrums and fights along boards and battles for the puck and fans paying top bucks in the leaque to watch the game and that has to change like it use to be for a faceoff instead of the Referee saying to move the puck.

  20. RIDELY BROKE THE CODE OF CONDUCT FOR A YOUNG ROOKIE KID TAKEIN A HEAVY SLAPSHOT INTO AN EMPTY Net.WITH GARGABE OFFICATING AND HOW THEY CALL THE GAME AND THE CROSS CHECK MISSING RIDLEY HEAD AND HE WAS NOT HURT ON THE PLAY SO I would say one game suspension and Ridley a 5000 dollar fine for breaking the code of conduct.

  21. His stick rode up and caught him. If the kid was ready for the hit he wouldn't have got it up high but instead he decided not to be ready and ate shit.

  22. I think Reilly just wants a break from the team that's why he did what he did, on top of being pissed for his team playing ass on defence, he's just sick of it and let his emotions take over

  23. This certainly is not Dale Hunter equivalent. At least Rielly had a “legit” reason to go at him…should have been a simple face wash and some shoving instead. Cross check to the head should be a minimum 10 games, you cannot allow room in your game for dangerous retaliation. Baseball if you showboat you get drilled in the ribs, when they throw at their head it becomes serious and career threatening. Same here, don’t mess with head area
