  1. Not a thing? Did Dubas overturn half the roster and not consult with Sullivan at all? Of course he did. He went out and tried to get players that better fit what Sullivan said he needed… and the team's worse than last year somehow. You have one of the best PP QB's of the current era (in Karlsson), he play's for Sullivan, and suddenly get's hockey's version of Steve Blass disease.

If someone wrote a book with Sullivan as the lead character, a reader would toss it for giving him such ridiculous plot armor.

  2. This looks like the team we wanted 2 months ago. Its time we inject some reality into the expectations of the moves made in the offseason. I know im new to this game but idk where the idea that this is supposed to up and magically work because of a few plug-ins. Its like the management is playing statistics and the fans are playing magic make-believe. Yes time is short for our captain i completely understand. But this team needs more time together. As fans its time to temper expectations and be patient for once. Understand the gravity of the situation. We made massive changes with a core thats aging. ITS GOING TO TAKE MORE TIME THAN WE WOULD LIKE.

I cannot sit here silent while analysis suggests that Rakells play prior to a MONUMENTAL powerplay drought was better yet the team was worse back then. THIS is the problem. The reason Captain can do so much good is because hes a complete player. More than just skill wise. The MENTAL aspect of complete is more important. This lack of mindset in the rest of the team is why we are here and why my earlier Dubas comment rings true. Stats do not win you games. You have a bunch of players here to score. But they lack the gravity of complete play. Rakell not statistical drop now should be a blessing. Because maybe the offense (netfront) is progressing forward. Its crazy to me to consider hes downgraded his play based off numbers. Hes the first player to give up those numbers to help the identity of this team move forward. Acciaris effort is a mirror of Sid. I know thats crazy to say but he understands his role. He understands how it benefits the group. He knows that going to the boards might sacrfice a chance at him getting points. THAT is the defining aspect of a player that is selfless. That is dynamic. That is GREAT

  3. FINALLY FINALLY you woke up and smell the coffee with just how bad and inconsistent the scoring has been. Defending has been almost the least of the team’s problems all season long!! Their actually pretty decent at defending I’ve been saying it all season long lol

  4. It’s baffling. You can’t miss the playoffs due to bad luck, it’s too long of a season for that, but that’s really what it feels like. I watch this team and they look like a playoff team. It feels like every goalie they play is out of his mind. But it just can’t be bad luck at a full 82 game sample size. Just seems like no one has actual answers.

  5. I’m tired of hearing “the penguins showed up for that big game” when we beat Colorado or Boston. The fact is if you really look at those two games earlier this year, Boston and Colorado didn’t bring their A game to play the penguins. I’m sorry but this team just isn’t good enough. It’s time to rebuild.

  6. Old, stale, arrogant, soft and most boring pens team I have ever seen. Dubas is Cherrington 3.0! Pittsburgh sports scene is the worst I’ve ever seen. Each organization are selling the fans lies and deception. Dubas and Sully should be fired into the sun.

  7. The problem is puck placement when they are shooting doesn’t matter if you keep getting shots on goal if you’re shooting it right at the goalies chest. Second is the passing is way too slow. They are allowing the goalie and opposing teams time to recover when the pass happens, that is the penguins problems

  8. DK, I would probably guess that Mike Sullivan was the one F bombing because in watching his post game on Saturday, he's visibly pissed off and frustrated but didn't publicly throw anyone under the bus by name, but called out underperforming players as a whole.

This lack of offense, is solely on those players who are not performing to the standards that they need to perform at, we know who those players are that need to step up big time. Their biggest issue the last couple of seasons is lack of being able to finish, they have been near the bottom of the league at finishing the last couple seasons and unfortunately it's hurting them big time this year.

  9. Third GM with this same coach and core and they keep getting worse. They go out an get the Norris winner and somehow get worse. They get rid of all the Hextall garbage and are still worse. They finally have some solid goaltending stability and yet… Does DK need a bar graph or line chart to illustrate better to him the downward trend the Penguins have been on over the past 6 seasons? Something has to give and it's too late to get anything but a middling pick for Malkin, so what's it gonna be? Trade Karlsson the same season you moved heaven and earth to get him? Trade Smith or Rakell? For What? Are we going to keep fooling ourselves that there's still time to get everything sorted out with a little over 3 weeks before the trade deadline when they haven't been in playoff contention all season yet? No matter what they do, we can't keep blaming the goaltending, the bottom 6 and the GM for every season this team falls further and further into the has-been category. At some point the elephant in the room and main consistent of this flawed team has to be addressed whether it's ultimately fair or not. Not all great coaches keep their jobs forever, and the "I don't know why they aren't scoring, but it's not the coaches fault" is not an acceptable answer anymore. That will float for a week or two, even a month or more, but not a whole season.

To be one of the league leaders in scoring chances, shots on goal, and high danger chances and be one of the worst in shooting percentage and actual scoring is unacceptable no matter who is on the ice. To be one of the better teams defensively, and yet the system they employ still requires they need to be that much better to cover for their inability to put the puck in the net is a conundrum that means something is inherently and more deeply flawed with the team and it's overall identity and scheme, and sorry DK, but they won't hire yet another GM to skate around Coach Unmovable this time. What gets me is when this team had better excuses for player ineptitude back in 2014 when they were still more much more capable and competitive, they still fired Bylsma, who was getting a lot more out of them then than Sullivan has over the past several seasons. No one had an issue with that for some reason, because there' was a higher standard that wasn't being met, but Mr. hasn't done a thing with his team since 2017 Mike Sullivan isn't held accountable at all, and the standard has become irrelevant.

Why was it considered Bylsma's fault back then when the were coughing up 3-0 series leads, but Sullivan getting bounced in first rounds and not even getting there at all while even losing season deciding games to a team trying to win the draft lottery is clearly on the players and the GM's? Are we finally going to admit that it's not a good team anymore no matter who coaches them or who they bring in to help and as long as they are holding onto an old core and identity that doesn't suit them anymore, then it doesn't matter who the coach is? That would be more logical. But as long as people think they are still worth investing in, then you better be ok with the idea that If they don't make the playoffs again, Sullivan will be fired. I'll guarantee it.

  10. I love how when Sid was getting a few punches to the face, no one came to his side. Not that I would expect it from this group of wilted daisies. But that's ok, they'll make them pay for it on the Powerless Play. They're just a weak team in every sense of the word. All finesse, little grit. They go to the net a bit more now, but it's just a token gesture, as they don't really battle there for rebounds or lose pucks as their sticks are never even on the ice. The same goes in front of their own net defensively. Little battle and lot's of "think about it and say we did" effort.

  11. This season was a perfect storm of Dubas thinking the top 6 was good enough to carry the offense, so he went out and flooded the bottom 6 (and Wilkes) with a bunch of defensive forwards … only to then have Rickard Rakell and Reilly Smith choose this season to go completely MIA. It doesn't help that DOC isn't developing offensively either.

Now of course it would have been good for Dubas to have tried to add some offense to the 3rd line … but it is too late for that now. So they've been stuck all season with one line scoring … and more specifically two players, Crosby and Guentzel.

  12. But let’s keep defending Sullivan, DK, and deny his role in the roster construction this season. How they play, or not play, is equally on him as the players. Stop defending him

  13. I've been sure the pens were better than what we have seen and soon the real team would show up and make they play offs. But now I believe that the team we've seen so far is actually the team they are. There is something intangible that is causing this team to fail, and with the talent they have, it's hard to take.

  14. My question is Jake gonna be traded? I gear alot on TSN saying Jake is probably gonna be traded, are they even talking for contact extension? Big loss if we did.

  15. they are pretty “ok” at defense but that won’t get you anywhere when you have guys that can’t put it in the net. Geno, Rak, Smith and Rust should all have more goals with all these high danger chances.
