Would you give Casey what Tage or Cozens got? If the Sabres do, they would be spending around $21M on three centers who would not be a 1C on a cup contender (or at least they haven’t played to that level yet). If you’re drawing up a blueprint on how to build a cup contender I’m not sure this is the way you’d want to do it, though I suppose the Sabres could innovate a new way of building a cup winner.

I’m kind of tired of developing players for other teams, and then trading them once they’re about to hit their primes.

We have enough prospects, salary space, and outgoing free agents to freshen up the team for next year.

I’m more interested in addressing/fixing the team through free agency (like we should’ve done last summer) than being panic sellers at the trade deadline.

    I mean… no shit.

If signing Casey means not signing one of: JJ, Quinn, Benson…

Difficult issue when you don’t know what the asking price is from Casey’s agent. If he wants to win, you’re going to trade him. If he wants to stay, then he’d have to give you a number you can work with. What’s difficult is even at 7 million the three centers here haven’t really proven or won fuck all (I know, obvious). They’re all offense first players. None great on the draw. Playmakers. That’s a very similar skill set and I think we need something different. Krebs to me, is worthless. I’m guessing he’s Casey’s replacement and that’s terrifying. I think he’s too small and he’s literally never scored goals.

He should 100% be centring the top line right now and move Tage to the wing.

This is it – it will show how versatile a lineup we can get with an injury to one of our top six.
