Wonder what the deal was and who pulled out

I’m going to be so pissed off if we trade Holtz away

  3. pdubbs87

Good. Holtz trade would have come to bite us in the ass for years.

  4. 6point3cylinder

It’s too late in the season. Make a move for goaltender in the off-season.

  5. McRibs2024

6 million on a wrong side of 30 goalie would really worry me.

But if holtz was involved I’d really hope that we’d see a d join the trade coming back our way.

At least people can calm down now about whether Fitz is trying or not.

  7. ScrewOff_

If Fitz trades Holtz for Markstrom it’d be the definition of a panic move and severely tarnishes his rep. That’s an instant loss no matter which way you put it.

This is so stupid. I’d rather miss the playoffs than trade for a 35 (edit: 34) year old goaltender just to help us out for this season. I’d rather evaluate who can be obtained in the offseason with a big trade if we’re giving up assets. And not for a 1 maybe 2 year goaltender

  9. Jsome2010

I know I’m in the minority, and we all think this is an overpay, but if trading Alexander Holtz is the difference between this team making a deep playoff run and not making the playoffs, I’m all for it.

It’s like baseball at the trade deadline. You have to give to get.

I’m never going to fault a team for going for it. The team is loaded with prospects, and maybe this is worth it.

Zetterlund, Sharangovich, Holtz. This is the price you have to pay for a known quality player. Idk about a 34 yr old goalie though with more than a few holes on our team on top of that. We still need around 20 more wins to make it. I’d rather hold off and address the goalie situation during the offseason.

    It is panic time.

We were supposed to be cup contenders not bottom of the wild card hoping to inch a playoff spot.

Would I like to keep holtz? Yes. Do I think keeping him would be a detriment if we got a solid goaltender like markstrom for a few years? No.

Stop fan voting a fourth liner who makes rookie mistakes and has a few moments where he looks good.

We have 3 lines ahead of him with better talent.

  12. manjd90

First of all, Markstrom would be absolutely huge for this team despite everyone complaining that he’s 34. Who cares. You ride an elite starter for three years and then re-address goaltending down the road. He’s the missing piece.

Secondly, this thread has really hammered home how the fanbase’s valuation of Holtz is so insanely detached from his true value. From his on-ice play to prospect production to his underlying numbers, there’s nothing that supports the overwhelming opinion that he’s some blue chip prospect that can’t be moved. He’s a B prospect.

  13. I think we need to eat shit this year and deal with it being a wasted year then in the summer try to fix it (like we should have last summer) because you aren’t getting a goalie mid season without overpaying. The summer allows the selling team to replace, less fanfare, realistic value etc.

Can everyone drop this now? There, the Devils tried to retool. They didn’t purposely let the team flounder and run with VV and two almost-rookies.

  15. TheNightRain68

I’d only be okay with this if we can flip Markstrom to the Preds for Saros when the season is done. Then again, I do not want to give up holtz

  16. BurnerAccount374

I think many people assume this means Calgary backed out. But I wonder if Fitz has stepped back after Saturday and last night’s goaltending/defensive performances.

  17. FriedCammalleri23

Markstrom is a short term solution, we need long term solutions in goal. Holtz is not worth losing for a 34 year old goalie.

If you want to throw big pieces like that around, you should be harassing Barry Trotz until he gives up Askarov or Saros.

  18. Anonycron

We couldn’t give away Holtz last year. No one wanted him. Sure, he has improved, but if we can get a valuable piece for him… we have to jump on that. Holtz for Markstrom with the right amount of salary retention would have been a good trade. Unfortunately they couldn’t agree on the retention part.

  19. mustachiolong

Nichols using a Seravalli quote as a source? This has multiple layers of “bullshit” to it speaking how other insiders have said it never reached Markstrom.

  20. NoFearsNoTears

Fuck this shit. Also, i bet it would have been accepted by the Flames if we played holtz in the top 6 majority of the year to showcase his potential… rather than giving him 10 minutes a night with AHL bums

  21. CajunBmbr

Holtz is the best choice to give up of the young prospects and talent on the roster.
