What teams have the cap space and are wanting to take Guentzel?
What teams have the assets for Guentzel?
What teams are not a part of his 12 team no-trade list?

Remember that cap space goes up next year and that gives a bunch of teams the latitude required to pick Jake up for a playoff run and then sign him long term. Jake holds all the cards similar to Tkachuk and Gaudreau; scary. I would love to see him sign in Pittsburg but as we keep hearing it’s a business and teams try to stay competitive and stay within the cap.

It’s crazy to me that the incompetency of this coaching staff has this situation even existing in the first place. If we just fired guys 2 months ago, we’re probably comfortably in the playoff picture and Jake wouldn’t be a potential sell lol this season is terribly frustrating, somehow more so than last season and the previous 4 playoff failures

It’s really only worth doing if the return is high value NHL ready prospects or cost controlled young players who are already in the NHL. Picks are pretty useless to a team built around a bunch of 35 year olds.

Tanner Jeannot return + another 1st

Would love to see Seattle take a swing at this and maybe offer Shane Wright in the deal

As we have already locked up the core players, to deviate from that strategy (and weaken the team short-term) sounds hypocritical and counter-intuitive.
However, given financial considerations, it’s understandable that a move might have to be made. It should only be made if the transaction represents a major haul where the Penguins can benefit from it.

I’d rather they trade away the coaching staff than Guentzel. Trading Guentzel isn’t going to solve anything for this team. They should make moves that have real impact. The coaching staff, Rakell, Smith, POJ to name a few.

This weekend sealed that he’s moving on

I love Jake but unless we start stringing together some wins the pens should trade him. You can’t just let a piece like that walk for nothing

A blog post based on someone else’s blog post and neither has any connection to any team management currently employing Guentzel’s services or looking into obtaining Guentzel’s services.

“Update” is a bit generous. Appears nothing has changed. Which I guess is an update.

So the « update » is there is no update regarding Jake Guentzel’s future.

Getting rid of Jake is by far the worst thing this team could ever do. I am absolutely disgusted this has to even be a consideration.

I want more than a 1st and a prospect. Needs to be a bit more for me.

I hope he pulls a Nate McClouth and ends up getting a good looking haul and then resigns anyway.
(I know McClouth was gone for a few seasons, but my 2 year old is a demon and I can’t think of a better example)

Soak it in friends, post your hearts out – this might be our last meaningful argument of the Crosby era <3 I will miss you idiots

Am I the only one who doesn’t give a single shit about a late first round draft pick? If you’re not picking in the top 2 or 3 most years, it’s a 100% crap shoot. And if you ARE picking in the top 3 most years, it’s like a 78% crap shoot.
The last time our first rounders mattered at all, it was Sid, Geno, Flower, and Staal. And they were all super high picks.
I’m not saying draft picks are worthless, but I don’t understand why draft picks are so coveted over prospects. We could make them give us Doodle MacPherson ORRRRR hear me out… we could make them give us a draft pick and have like a 1 in 10,000 chance of getting someone as good as Doodle MacPherson.
Getting a draft pick from anyone in the market for Guentzel is a joke. What are we going to do with the 29th pick in the draft after all the Derrick Pouliots are gone? There’s a way better chance that pick turns into a career ECHLer than a career NHLer.
I guess all I’m trying to say is I’d rather get a good prospect and a solid 3rd or 4th liner than a prospect and a draft pick. At least that way we’re getting a known commodity instead of magic beans.

Wait, why are we shopping Jake? We aren’t going to get a better player in return and I thought he was the future star of this team after everyone retires? Are we just giving up already?
warpedashell
From Jakes perspective moving to a real contender makes sense. From the team’s perspective I think prospects are a huge gamble when you already have a top performer.

Well, maybe you should put the actual text of the update in the title instead of a clickbait ass title like « Jake Guentzel update » when the text specifically tells us that there’s no new information, i.e. no update.

The questions are:
What teams have the cap space and are wanting to take Guentzel?
What teams have the assets for Guentzel?
What teams are not a part of his 12 team no-trade list?
