Blades of Steel for the original Nintendo came out in 1987. Coincidence?

It looks like the current NHL is more old school than the old schoolers.

Glad to see it’s bouncing back a bit. Hopefully we can get back to early 2010 numbers, I think that’s the sweet spot.

It’s never been a big deal to me but I do feel there is a lack of rivalry in today’s game. Everyone shares the same agents, and they all train together during the offseason.

I became a Pens because of #66 but I became a hockey fan because of those Wings, Avalanche playoff games. So much intensity. Real hatred there.

It’s not so much the fighting I miss as the rivalry that just doesn’t seem to exist anymore.

Good. Fights are a dumb part of hockey.

Yes I know I’ll be downvoted. Don’t care. I like hockey, not boxing

Betting it mirrors tv viewership…just sayin’

I feel like those staged fights of yesteryear are gone for the most part(which is a good thing, imo). But hockeyfights that happen in the heat of the moment. Fuck ya! Love it

The spike after ’88 is approximately ’97. Draw your own conclusions.

WHA had plenty of fights in 70s. One guy who played there back then said the fights were more important than who actually won the game. And there were 6-8 fights per game.

Since it’s peak, I love how there’s a decline and then a massive spike every few years. It’s like « Hey this is still hockey, god dammit! »

  11. If I wanted to watch hockey for fights, I’d be better off watching ufc. Seeing people fight with helmets and padding all underneath their jersey always seemed lame to me 🤷‍♂️

That’s fine with me. Half the time they seem as forced as a boxing pre-fight press conference fight. If everyone is buddy-buddy off ice than that’s fine with me. Throwing down or lack there of is not a useful indicator of competitiveness in the league. Stats will speak for themselves.

In 1987-88 Bob Probert had 398 penalty minutes (led league) and also scored 62 points

I like that we are seeing a, at least a slight increase in fights in recent years.

Well they say everything in nature falls under a bell curve!

90s the best of everything! Can’t change my mind on that.

1985: Bob Probert joins the Red Wings.

1988: Probert’s best year with a league leading (and 6th all time) 398 penalty minutes, as well as his only All Star appearance.

1989: Probert misses some of the season due to getting busted for cocaine possession.

1994: Probert leaves the wings, and goes to the hawks with limited time due to injuries.

    2002: Probert finally retires.
