  1. What ive been saying since about 20 games in. Dude has done a complete 180 from last season and is actually our 3rd best dman now

  2. Chiarot has always been a good physical defenseman. Early last season I felt it was Seider that was struggling and it effected Chiarot’s play.

  3. We as wings fans arent turning the tide. We'd rather have simon up. But petry is so bad hes not on the top of our list to replace. As a whole wings fans are most upset with petry COPP and. CHariot in that order.

  4. as much of a Stevie Y fan i am, and Red Wings fan, last year was horrible to see Chiarot play, although looking to todays team, i can start to see where the Captain was going. This guy in hindsight was probably one of the smarter moves he made, and I feel the dividend will pay off in the playoff, if they make it. The wings are going to be like a dog and hard to beat in a series, and I wouldnt be suprised to see a good run if players like Big Ben here can keep up there play.

  5. Honestly I know his dad passed away and I dk how he did but dealing w a sick parent and not being there bc of your job would be so hard it seems after his dad passed he’s been able to focus on the game maybe I’m wild lol but I did think about it

  6. He has been great this year as a whole I feel but I think bringing Petry helped a ton he has great chemistry with him you can see it and I think Lalonde choaching style is showing off what he is has always been capable of doing.

  7. Steve Dangle made a funny when he said if the wings get in, Ben chairot will baapdababadadba. (Hammer sound fro smash bros.).
    Had me rolling

  8. Just remember, and no one says anything about this… His dad was sick and died from cancer last year during the season. How can that not weigh on someone and affect their play. These players are human and have feelings too. I think people forget that sometimes because of the money they are making.

  9. Tbf, I was more concerned with Lalonde as his defensive system wasn’t working out and he NEVER says anything to the officials. Chariot, Petry, hell the entire D core had me screaming at my TV/device screens .

  10. I thought Chiarot was mid, at best, last season… but felt he was overpaid. He did nothing to dispell that notion. Even for the first half of the season, he didn't. But now he seems to have found another gear, and it makes that contract look better.

I wonder. Do we have something similar to look forward to for Holl next year?

  11. Been rooting for Benny all year, love the tough guys on our roster. Wish klim got more ice time

  12. I am surprised more at him passing Ghost who has practically disappeared after a good start in Detroit. As far as Chiarot's shortcomings bringing or passing the puck out of his own zone and neutral zone, I would challenge you to come up with a list of five players on this squad who that isn't a problem for. Larkin, Kane…, maybe Seider? Veleno looked good when Larkin was out, but now has unfortunately seemed to have returned to the background. I think the wings are lacking three things from being one of the most dominate teams in the east. They need another defender with a good balance between lockdown defense and puck possession. They need to lock up Kane, Seider, and Raymond to extensions. Then finally, across the board, they need to figure out a way to safely bring that puck into the opponent's zone, because they are getting passes intercepted and their pockets picked, leading to way too many chances for the other teams, and I don't think that's sustainable. Teams like Edmonton, Tampa, Colorado, and some of the upper echelon of the NHL thrive off creating rushes like that.

  13. 1, Ben has always had a difficult/challenging time the first year when he is traded to a new team. Nothing new at all.
2, New system does not make things better.
3, He had a hard time with his relative (father) who passed away after a long illness.
4, Hard to pull yourself together and be super dad and professional athlete, when life's challenges come in waves. Stress and increased vulnerability are common with too many/big changes in life.

What I'm most impressed with Ben this year is his way of not taking stupid penalties which has been his norm in other teams. He also performs solidly in defense this year, no longer getting lost by chasing the wrong person. I had no idea he could actually skate with such speed and flair as he actually does in OT situations today.

  14. For anyone that is actually paying attention, he has been good all season. He started strong and has only gotten better

  15. He's been solid all year. Seems to have found his niche.. it also helps that this team has a lot of chemistry. The Wings have 12 players with 10 or more goals. The locker room is tight, and it shows.

  16. Thank you for making this video, Lego. I totally agree, but I will admit, I didn't really like the move when it happened.

  17. Never doubt Stevie Y. Stevie was protected by Probie, Larkin will be protected by Chiarot. He was likely forced to fit into systems that didn't allow him opportunities for much offensive production in other organizations. Now he has a GM who studied at the Scotty Bowman University, and he's fitting into the Wings like an iron fist into a velvet glove.

  18. You're right that Chiarot's been looking great. I think they have all been looking great since Kane showed up. There is something about having a player like that around. His presence is making everyone around him better.

  19. I've noticed this guy playing better hockey for the last couple of months give or take. His sticks in the lane have been extraordinary, especially in critical moments, and there have been far fewer mistakes separated by far more distance than last year. Certainly the most phenomenal season through and through, but he's been a decided improvement over the last 25 games or so.

  20. I was born in the mid 1980’s. I started watching and playing hockey in 1990. I’ve seen it all when it comes to the Wings. I was in the minority when we signed Ben. I understand his contract is not the best. But he’s the type of d-man we needed at the time. He’s a physical d-man, he’s a good locker room guy, a decent leader. I thought, as he got comfortable in the system, he would be an asset to the team.

  21. Chariot was a one man wrecking crew during the Habs run. Thats why it was so shocking to me to see him become a bum after such a dominating defensive performance that playoff. WIth that said, since he's having a bounce back year If Stevie can somehow sucker somebody into taking that contract of our hands this deadline I would trade him for a bag of pucks🤷‍♂

  22. From a habs fan, Chariot is a demon, not a stats darling, but a great hockey player, amazing teammate and warrior for whoever he plays for, you guys got a real one 💪🙏

  23. Man, the way people talk about him is so annoying for me. I feel like one of the only people who could see that he was a great skater, made great passes for the breakout, and even kept plays alive in the offensive zone. He did this stuff all the time last season. I honestly don't even know where some of the criticism of his defensive instincts and positioning came from. He doesn't make mistakes that often, really. I honestly think people just looked at the advanced stats and plus minus and extrapolated that into him being a bad player. But It's extremely obvious to me that he's actually pretty good. The only thing that's different this year is that he's more familiar with everything, the team is playing better, and he no longer has a dying father on his mind.

And I'm sure plenty of people noticed him set up the winner with that drop pass for Larkin, but he also made the crisp pass up to Kane to get it started, and he drew the third defender by going right to the front of the net as Larkin went behind it. He knows what he's doing out there.
