  1. If he re-signs with Calgary that would be a Conroy masterclass move

    Full tweet:

    > Just got off the phone with Chris Tanev who said it’s been an emotional 24 hours, as he loved his time in Calgary.
He took me through the process that led to his trade to Dallas, which he is excited about.
“We had brief talks in training camp and then basically a couple weeks ago I sat down with Connie  and said, ‘I want to try to win – this could be my best chance to do it. He was super understanding and would only trade me to a team where they had the potential to win, and I appreciate that.
“As hard as it was, I felt it was the best opportunity to win a Stanley Cup, which has been my ultimate goal my whole career.”
He’ll remain in Calgary a few more days while trying to secure his visa and said that while he’s excited to throw himself into the Stars experience he will remain open-minded if he becomes a UFA in the summer, and wouldn’t dismiss the possibility of re-signing in Calgary.

  4. Iphone4Lyfe

Go chase that cup Tanny and come back to Calgary to mentor the next generation of defence

OH MY GOD, TANEV SIGNED AS A FA WOULD BE ICING ON THE CAKE

  6. Specialist-One-712

Oh my God this is an amazing new timeline we’ve entered

  7. tristan1616

That would be hilarious and awesome if he came back to us in the summer. Two Tanevs for the price of one!

  8. SomeJerkOddball

I was actually wondering about that.

  9. PlanningMyDeath

Yessssss. Win a cup and come back home bb.

The only fleece that’s happening is the fleece tanevs gonna be wearing for the next cold calgary winter.

  11. Paulhockey77

That would be crazy if that happened 😂

    Followup tweet:
    > I asked Chris Tanev of his fondest memory of his time as a Flame:
    > “For me it’s the people of Calgary.
    > “The fans, right from Day 1 they welcomed me with open arms and treated my family so well.
    > “I really say this honestly, the people in this city are so first class.
    > “The nicest people you can imagine.”
    > “We have a lot of close friends in the city we met outside of hockey, which is important because you need to have that to get away from the game.”

Love Tanev, I want him back but so do the Canucks hahaha.

I love Tanev and truly hope he re-signs here and finishes his career a flame.

Look I like Tanev and he as great here….but let this one go man

He’s a 35 year old Dman who has clearly lost a step this year and has been injury prone his entire career, that’s not a player the Flames need to be signing

  17. He’ll be the new Michael Stone and eventually end up coaching here or something

  18. Full_Examination_920

Come home Chris, I miss you already!!!

  19. Koraboros

I mean what else is he going to say? Fans always take these comments as positive but it’s a nothing burger. He wants to win and unless Flames seem like a winner next year hes not coming back.

  20. Existing_Proof_562

    Well, this didn’t age well

  21. treple13

I’d love to look at a few older ex-Flames in FA and see if they have interest in coming back as mentors. Tanev is one, but TJ Brodie is potentially another if Toronto casts him off

  22. SKKforLife

I fricken love Tanev! I don’t care how old he is, if he wants to come back in the off-season they need to sign him. His mentorship alone will be a huge asset to the young d-men.

  23. Budget-Candle2171

Sounds nice, but it’s time to let the young Dmen come in and develop – which CGY has been historically AWFUL at doing – that is to say let the players fail and learn from their failures (Kyllington a good counterpoint), not shipping them off back the to A or press box every time they commit a blunder.

  24. boominnewman

I thought my fantasy of him re-signing was totally ridiculous!

  25. S3ahawk36

Please no, please let our dad come home.

    Signed, Canucks fans
