My best guess is the Seider and Raymond contracts are about a million too low. With their comparables the team is probably looking at around 9.5 for Seider and 7.5 for Raymond
So to explain things a bit:
I think we keep Kaner. 6.5 is more than fair for what he provides, and I initially had him at 7.
I also prioritized keeping Daniel Sprong. He’s been a huge reason for our success this year, and if we can get him cheap on a 2-3 year with a pay bump, we should. He can finish and gets us big goals.
We’re apparently keeping Perron too, but he’s not getting a raise, and he’ll have to take this to stay with us.
I initially had Raymond at 7.5 for 8 years, but he may not want that, and we can’t afford it. A 4 year bridge for 6.5 seems like it would work well for both parties.
I used the Heiskanen deal as Seider’s comp, and honestly I think it’s pretty spot on. Petro is around there too.
Going after a guy like Zach Bogosian on the blue line in the off-season would be smart. He’s a gritty RD, more importantly he’s cheap, and he’s got a Cup. He takes up Holl’s slot without Holl’s money.
No way we can keep Ghost. Edvinsson needs to be up full time next year, and he probably eats PP minutes with Mo.
Kasper probably gets up full time, in a bottom 6 role. He’s cheap, and he’d be very effective.
I really want to keep Fischer. I really like what he provides down the lineup. He’s an absolute asshole out there, and he’s providing all the presence we thought we be getting from Klim Kostin, but he’s insanely good in a shutdown role.
Fabbs or Maatta could be traded out. But the org clearly loves both of them for what they provide in the room, and I think they want to try and keep both. If we can survive next year, Fabbri probably negotiates a new deal for less money.
Copp is a prime buyout candidate after next season. No signing bonuses, so it makes it easier, and his contract straight up sucks. He’s worth maybe half of that.
Nice sheet.
Maybe make the contracts to sign be computed cells where you can enter a column of comparable salaries that get averaged
I feel Sprong is a goner unless they can’t resign Kane. He is likely going to get over 4 per on a 3 year deal as he has been a 20 goal scorer for a few years now playing limited minutes.
I also think we move Matta, Holl, and possibly one of Husso or Fabbri if needed. As much as I don’t think managment wants to move any of them (aside from Holl), they may not have a choice. Especially if they think they can reel in a name free agent or trade for a bonafide top 6 guy.
I didn’t see Reimer on there, are you assuming he’s being traded?
Only one more year of paying Justin Abdelkader woooo!
I don’t think Kane cares about the money at this point and taking a roughly $4m contract is where I expect him to land. Raymond is also way too low $ wise. I expect a 6-8 year deal around 7.5 for Raymond.
I do not see Mo signing for anything long term that does not not start with a 9 TBH.
Ugh I forgot we still paying for Abdelkator. At least its only a mil.
Count me in the « Seider gets at least $8.5m-$9m/year » crowd.
Dougie Hamilton got 7 years and $63m. Pietrangelo got 7 years and $61m. Sergachev is on an 8 year deal for $68m. It would be malpractice on the part of Seider’s agent to take any less than that given Seider’s age and what he’s accomplished so far before hitting his « true » prime.
And regarding Raymond…if Caufield got 8 years and $62 million, I think Raymond wouldn’t be too far off base asking for the same type of deal.
Zack Bogosian?? Did I miss something
Also I believe that we will get Seider locked up long term for under 9. I’ve said it a bunch on this sub, I don’t believe Steve pays anymore more than Larkin. It’s a team culture thing. Match Seider at 8.7 and Raymond might get a bridge deal unless he’ll take like 7-7.5 for long term. Would like to see Kane resign for 2 or 3 years around 5 too. Maybe all of that is wishful thinking, but I can see it being realistic.
That 5M+ for Copp really hurts to look at
No hate at all, but I think you may have been able to save yourself some time by using the Armchair GM feature on CapFriendly?
Bro, you could’ve just posted a link to Spotrac
I don’t _see_ Ghost Bear on your sheet, can we deal Petry and Chiarot to *_spins the wheel of Teams With Cap Space_* Chicago for a 7th round pick and call up Edvinsson and Johansson or Wallinder?
I totally forgot abdelkader was still getting paid
I love the time and effort you put into this but there’s literally a website with all this info already
If EA sports taught me anything it’s that you can offer guys 85% of what they’re asking and they’ll accept. Works almost every time.
Making Holl and Kostin disappear is easier said than done. Kostin has a more favorable contact, so I doubt it would be too hard to move him, but with how little he’s played, you never know. I think he is the most likely buyout candidate if no one wants him.
Holl on the other hand, we almost certainly would have to give up assets to trade him since he will have two years left. Doubt he gets bought out since he has term.
Edit:
Personally, I think we only keep one of Perron and Sprong. Petry also could be considered for a buy out, even though he’s rebounded from his rough start. Yzerman will clear a spot if he has to, just like he did with Nielsen and Abby.
This is one of the reasons it might be best to keep berggren. A cheap, productive option to fill a roster spot up front could give us a lot of flexibility
How is Ed almost a free agent before even playing for the team
