The last 5 games were crucial for any kind of playoff hope. We were out hit at 2-1 over those 5 games. Only had more than 10 hits once in those 5 games. Absolute pathetic intensity and compete at a pivotal point in the season.

Ofcourse this soft ass team’s hopes fizzle out even more with a gifted penalty shot that ends in our best player not even getting a shot off.

Hopefully MacDermid can bring this team some grit, and heart because it has 0 toughness. Bunch of pushovers and the whole league knows it.

  2. Saw_Doctor

Lindy Ruff isn’t a good coach and Jack Hughes is a prima donna.

  3. NJDevils1

Season’s over. Just hope fitz doesn’t do something stupid like Mercer/holtz/casey +1st for marky

  4. Fake-Death

Some say Jack is still dangling that puck

  5. DeepPucks

This team needs to have their boys to men Nathan MacKinnon « I haven’t won shit » moment gut check.

  6. FireGase

Watched most of that game in a Jets t-shirt and a devils hat. Man sports are rough

  7. DontDraftSmall

We usually lose to heavy teams because our best players are scrawny. Hughes and Hischier can’t play more than 60 games a season. We need to get heavier because hitting is back in the NHL and one designated hitter isn’t enough. We need to diversify our scrawny portfolio of top players.

That felt like the most devastating loss in over a decade. A perfect opportunity to make up ground flushed down the toilet. That should make it clear to Fitz that we should sell. Just not our year.

As much as everyone wants to doom and gloom, I’m remaining positive as much as possible. I know things haven’t gone our way whatsoever this season, but guess what? That’s sports. Last year wasn’t a fluke. This year is an off year with a ton of growing up that needed to happen.

5 points out with 20 something games to go. Be doom and gloom all you like, however, I will continue to remain positive and support the boys till we are completely and totally eliminated. Y’all have a great Saturday and we’ll see everyone back here tomorrow for the matinee game vs the Kings.

    LETS GOOOO BOYS!

Again Ruff is to blame. One glance at Jack Hughes’ shootout percentage and it would have been an easy choice to not send out Hughes for the penalty shot. Get this coach out of here

Really tough stretch of games ahead. Teams that matched the Ducks’ win total like 2 months ago.

  12. Reading this thread after every loss with my coffee and a little nicotine really helps get my bowels to loosen up.

    4 goals on 14 shots.

  13. Skycomb

Damn, just saw the highlights. All those damn chances too.

  14. hammersweep

there’s a fringe chance they make the playoffs, but i’m a sucker and i’m holding out for a miracle

Still have a dinosaur coach behind the bench. Still plays someone who isn’t ready to play in the NHL as a starter as if he’s still in 1998 and had Dominik Hasek.

And the team never looks any different? Fucking shocker.

Fitz ultimately is the person to blame for this fuck up. All he’s done is help Dallas get Tanev for a low round draft pick and bring in a guy who can’t actually play and takes more penalties than Brendan Smith. Fuck him. Seriously. He’s going to need to have a monster off-season for me to trust him again.

I can only hope this season is just one of those lessons emerging young champions must learn. Because this season would be one gigantic waste of everything otherwise.

  17. gothenburgpig

Would trading Mercer or Holtz ruin chemistry even more?

  18. pdubbs87

The giving up the first goal again is the biggest takeaway for me.

  19. UpTight_

Regardless how you feel on lindy ruff being our coach I’ve gotta come out and say I think it would be a less than favorable thing to fire him now. I’d go as far as to say it would have been a bad idea even in December

I don’t think this team would respond any better if lindy was canned right now, and I truthfully think it would make them considerably worse. Lindy being loved by his players is a big factor. Canning him would tank morale enough that I think it would actively harm the performance of players, more so the younger ones.

Even if we strike my last point from the record I think an interim coach situation would also hurt them just as much. I don’t think these guys would be able to adapt to a new system on a whim in such a close race. I get the feeling Fitz knows this. Also he just extended the man so optics is also a consideration.

Then again I don’t play professional hockey so I’m just spitballing. But there’s nothing better to do on a Saturday morning than useless theorizing I guess

  20. theketchupthief

I feel like I’m becoming a fucking Leaf fan.

Like whether it’s actually the right move or not I want the entire front office and coaching staff deported to Siberia

  21. jerrosen14

Maybe macdermid was brought in to fight lindy

  22. kimjeongillest

Get Rogalski the fuck out of here before getting another goalie. Maybe, just maybe, after 4 years and at least as many goalies, bad goalie play is the symptom, not the disease

  23. jerrosen14

If this team could manage a 5 game win streak, they’d probably be back in a playoff spot. Problem is, they can’t manage a *two* game win streak, against the SHARKS AND DUCKS

  24. theketchupthief

I cannot say I envy fitz’s job at all right now- Gotta replace a head coach, goalie coach, possibly several defensemen, your bottom 6, and get a new goalie that doesn’t suck. And deal with either attempting to extend Toffoli or replacing him

  25. Labrad0r

Five points out of a playoff spot with a game in hand, chasing a Philly team that’s already showing signs of losing a wheel.

The season isn’t over, ya dinguses.
