SO happy to be proved wrong! – I watched Elias at the young prospects game in Penticton before he made the team. I thought they made a mistake drafting him, undersized and not that fast, even though the shot was there and the composure with the puck was obvious. In hindsight he wasn't really trying, or I shouldn't be an NHL scout. Seeing the future's not that easy.

Act like there's a deal on the table in Carolina (a place I'm sure Elias doesn't want to go) just to get him to the bargaining table, then make him a serious and substantial offer and get a deal done quickly. Everyone could see the weight of this RFA think was weighing on him and management put a stop to it as quickly as they could. Good job, guys. Very good job. We knew it was going to be for roughly this amount on a long term deal and let's not pretend the so-called "comparable" William Nylander, all due respect, is as good an overall player as Pettersson. At his best, Elias is an elite 2 way centre who needs to work on his strength and face-offs. He hasn't been that lately, and that's the point. Get this over with so the team can move forward. Well played, gentlemen and ladies, well played. I understand Emilie Castanguay does a lot of the contract negotiations and if that's the case, good job, Emilie. Now let's add some depth, get some guys back and get back on track.

He's a leader and fantastic BUT he isn't ever going to be a Conner. It's an horrible mistake to try and expect that and I hope Vancouver develops him as the player he is. Vancouver has enough talent teamwise not to rush Petey too hard, and he and the team should get the best overall ROI for this contract. I think Toccet is the right man to understand this balance. This should be excellent news for the Nucks.
