Best product the team has put out all year.

  2. NotMikeBabcock

I’ve seen more bench clearing brawls in Baseball than Hockey in the last 30 years… Hockey players also get penalized for fights. Ball players go back to the dugouts.

  3. togocann49

Even when ice/equipment made for a slower game, it was still fast. Refs knew they missed stuff, and players took to taking care of their own business sort to speak. It’s evolved overtime with an entertainment variable now in the mix. Also- fists are much better than swinging sticks, so if 2 guys drop sticks/gloves, refs let them settle it, don’t want stick swinging/spearing occurring if they can help it

Ice tea: boxing is not a sport, kma, not a sport, karate, etc is a sport….

  5. Isphet71

Just like the Devils on the ice this year, the Defense rests.

  6. bearwhidrive

That’s an A+++ tweet, but « players prosecuting offenders » is some « unwritten rules of baseball » ass shit and needs to be removed from the game.

  7. Comfortable-Ad-7158

I read in this Michael Scott’s voice from when he did an entire episode for his casting audition.

People throw haymakers in Rugby and just get a timeout.

    This anti-fighting campaign feels pre-planned.

Somebody is in hysterics because Rempe has been bringing the excitement of the 1990’s again.

Furthermore, why does hockey have to be exactly like other sports in every aspect? Its a nonsense question.

  10. GFYMODS669

It’s all fun and games until an ump gets sand in their eye!

  11. paulster2626

They don’t let them fight though. It’s against the rules, and players who break those rules receive major penalties.

  12. TemplesOfSyrinx

For the record, lacrosse is another sport where they let the players fight.

  13. saucytopcheddar

I always answer the fighting question, to non-hockey people, like this:

It’s not allowed… because it’s penalized. The question is, why aren’t the penalties more severe? Shall we discuss the pros/cons of fighting so we can debate what an appropriate penalty should be?

  14. afriendincanada

« you telling me these guys are just allowed to beat the crap out of each other? »

« yeah Ice, its hockey, you’re just going to have to get used to that »

  15. TheeFiction

Ice clearly hasn’t watched pro arena lacrosse. They drop gloves the same lol

  16. Dexter2533

    Refs enforce too
Players continue to enforcing if they collectively deem the punishment mandated by the refs or lack there of… was punitively insufficient.
Also sometimes a teams gets off to a slow start and an enforcer has to kick someone’s ass in order to wake up their own team.
Hockey culture is Fkn beautiful… but def weird!

This is so beautiful. An opportunity not wasted.

  19. Specialist-Cup1511

Yo that’s a pretty slick response

  20. mandiblesofdoom

The idea that « the players prosecute offenders » is stupid. As an NYR fan, I’ve watched Rempe get in four fights so far. Only one could be construed as « prosecuting an offender », and even that is dubious.

The NHL has fights, because fights sell. That it’s about « prosecuting offenders » is a myth.

  21. capsrock02

This isn’t Devils PR. That’s a separate account. Also this is an old tweet.

  22. canadachris44

Just get over it, it is what it is and has been for a long time. The game will continue to roll on as it always has, And its more fine-tuned than ever

  23. Darth_K-oz

I actually read it as “the refs who instigate the crime”…

  24. stonerwulf92

Don’t baseball teams have all out brawls sometimes

  25. TheSchwartzHawkey

Fighting in hockey is less Law & Order and more Batman, though.

When the police (the refs) aren’t doling out fair and appropriate justice (calling the game uneven, missed penalties, assessing penalties to the wrong player or team, calling minors when double/major/misconduct would be warranted, etc), sometimes Batman (an enforcer, goon, or just otherwise pissed off player) needs to step in and dole out some vigilante justice to rebalance the scales a bit.

  26. ryryryor

Fighting is allowed in hockey because the sport has a perfect way of dealing with fighters by putting them in the penalty box.

Other sports don’t have that system. What’re you going to do in football? Make the fighting players have to sit out for a couple plays? Make the teams play 10 on 10?

  27. UFC would have something to say about this.

In all honesty, it’s because most sports take one ball to play. Hockey takes two.

  28. lonestar-rasbryjamco

This is 100% because they just got Kurtis MacDermid. They have a top tier « prosecutor » now.

  29. Pava-Rottie

“Why is Hockey the only sport that they let the players fight?”

Because they can’t sing or dance

    Next question

Give this Social Media Manager a promotion.

  31. JKrow75

The “Code” has been missing from the NHL for almost 2 decades now. What’s left is a cheap facsimile, an echo of what used to be. It’s meaningless now.

  32. Nopants21

Pff no, it’s like gang warfare, a player’s perspective on an offense is 99% based on what jersey the offender was wearing. Players will defend anything as long as their teammate was doing it, and they’ll call gutless and classless anything done by someone else. Any Ottawa players punishing the empty net slapper? Any Toronto player fighting Reilly for his sucker punch? It’s vendetta justice and there’s nothing admirable about it.

Also lol at refs investigating crime.

  33. apple_jack1011

Ice has a point too. May be obvious but worth acknowledging. I think his point is: Mostly white sports like hockey and lacrosse and even baseball allow fighting without severe penalties bc dominant culture and rule makers dont mind white aggression, believe rage is containable. Mostly black sports like basketball and football severely punish fighting bc dominant culture and rule makers fear black aggression, believe rage is not containable. Worth asking yourself if you believe this too. And if you do, why?

  34. NobleBubbles902

Because they have knives on their feet and can slice people who stop them

  35. For Football (both American Football and Football), you’ve got 10+ other players on the opposing team if you get scrappy. Also, the punishments for fighting in most other sports is an immediate ejection, which can really cripple a team.

  36. illestrated16

Funny tweet but hockey fights are pretty lame

  37. nirojamic

I’ve seen some fisticuffs in lacrosse too!
