I have no issue with this. This is a playoff experienced big man who is steady in the defensive zone and clears the net. Also plays often on the right side. Just as long as it wasn’t expensive. If there wasn’t a big price involved, maybe this indicates we’re making a bigger splash up front?

Moves like this are to be expected, as we have very few assets.
Players such as Knies, Woll, Cowan, Minten, Niemela and Hirvonen will be very important to keeping us under the cap in the future. Especially next year with Willy’s new extension kicking in things will be tight. The team will need to find great value in eithe chrap ELC’s or cheap FA signings.

I see a lot of negativity here, but in all honesty our D core is getting bigger and more physical. Benoit/McCabe and now Edmundson with Lybushkin is stronger even if not as flashy/offensive. It’s what we need for playoffs I think.

I’m not sure I fully understand this one. Edmundson is a good player, probably an upgrade on at least a couple of our defenders, but another left hand shot, and another big body defence first guy. Between Edmundson, McCabe, Benoit, Lybushkin and even Gio and Brodie, that’s a whole lot of slow moving and not incredible breakout guys.
It’s like in the offseason the leafs realized they urgently needed someone to move the puck, so they brought in the ghost of Klingberg, but they did nothing once he got on island time to replace the aspects he was supposed to bring.
I don’t think this is a bad deal by any stretch of the imagination, it just doesn’t fill the needs I see on the backend in a meaningful way.

Honestly with Brodie looking a bit washed, I don’t mind the move, but I don’t see us scratching him for another LHD.
Also with the amount of holes we have in D in the upcoming season, maybe we’re trying to get ahead of next season by testing out some of the available cheaper FAs; pretty much trying to find some combinations of D-men to extend by the upcoming draft. Especially since the FA market is kinda weak this year.
I do like him more than Matt dumba so I guess that’s a plus lol
