Edmundson is good if you dump Brodie.
Leafs fans will hate it. They loathe defensive play, defenseman who can defend, and anything to do with keeping the other team out of their zone and pucks out of the net including you guys. See the problem is defensive play isn't flashy, it's not exciting, and for most it's not interesting because it's also not fast. Because of this anyone who does it well they hate because they don't see what those players bring. This results in them picking apart their mistakes and not seeing what they can do because they don't care about their position. They need defensive D. The others will have to adjust because what they don't need is offensive D, they have tons of them.

I see the vision, Brodie is getting traded for Parayko to make the money work, get rid of a left shot for a right shot, Parayko and Edmundson have been partners in the past.
if the Blue line is solid, I think this team can go places. Size covering space will help with the undersized wingers we have. It will unlock more from our top-line guys.

By looking at the depth chart, it looks like Joel can play both sides of defence just like Brodie.
I dont think this is a "massive" trade at all. A useful trade yes, and he can play the right side if required to, which is a good thing as we know leafs are thin there and the playoffs typicaly see more injuries. I would be very surprised if this is the only move the leafs make as although it is a good move, it is not the kind of move to make them a true contender, they still need more.

I like this deal. Especially with the 50% retention and the fact that Edmonson could resign with the Buds . He and Ben Chiarot totally shut down Matthews and Company when the Leafs and Habs played in the 2021 first round. It's not perfect he's not a right handed shot but its pretty good. Edmundson is a big move really? That’s another 5 or 6 ,,, where are the top 4 Ds that the leafs need? I get that you got humiliated by Florida last year so you go pick up heavy Ds but your forgetting the panthers have 3 defence man that are big but are also puck moving Ds and the other 3 are bruisers! You guys have 2 top 4 Ds and a bunch of 5 and 6s! I Instead of picking up puck moving D that are top 4 , you are playing into your opponents hands , look at your opponents D cores and tell me honestly that the leafs are even close to that?
I like Edmundson. He's big , he's slow. he will fight. It cost them nothing and he's a net clearing Behemoth. Cost you Nothing. Super Slow. I liked his shot in Montreal but not an offensive player. Left hand shot.
Seems as though Treliving is adding plug and play depth for this seasons run on defence. Need big and physical Dmen for a certain round no problem. Need puck moving speedy guys on the blueline? Have depth for that too.

Sorry, but this is NOT a big trade. Edmundson's defensive stats stink – he just ain't that good – and he won't make a noticeable difference on the blueline. Two draft picks for this dude is too high a price…
The Leaf Core 4 are the common denominator for 8 years of Leaf playoff disappointments. So how can trading the remaining players matter? Marner doesn’t thrive with playoff officiating & Matthews is tied with “all time bottom NHL playoff scorers” with zero playoff elimination game winning goals.😀
