1. Markstrom value will never be higher. There is no guarantee his play doesn’t fall off a cliff without Tanev and Hanifin. His numbers have already begun to fall the last few games. Remember, 6 months ago, this goalie was worth nothing. Now we are talking a 1st and good player.
2. There will be so much more competition in the summer. Ulmark and Saros might be available. Other goalies may be available for trade.
3. We have a huge need for center on the team. There are a few really good ones who are projected to go top 10 this draft. Instead of drafting in the top 10 with a trade, we will likely pick 14th to 16th.
4. False playoff hopes. We have gone on an amazing run in the past 14 games. And we have actually lost ground on opponents because other teams have also gone on runs. Regardless of last night, this team is not going to be as good without Tanev and Hanifin, and we will likely start losing some games.
5. Ownership meddling. Reported by Seravalli and Dreger, Conroy had a deal accepted and the higher ups nixed it in hopes of a 04 miracle type cup run. Let the GM do his job and go to hell Murray Edwards.
Just absolute clown crap if we don’t trade Markstrom.

If we had traded Marky the first time, we would probably have a 10 ten pick right now.
But given we didn’t, I’m good with rooting for a wildcard spot.
Maybe we can lock out Van in the first round ourselves 😉

Ok Bob… couldn’t you have picked a better picture for poor Marky…

It’s fun watching the wins, don’t get me wrong, but the direction that management has taken doesn’t really move with keeping a 34 year old with insane trade value

This team just refuses to get out of its own way.
The more top 10 draft picks we have the faster the rebuild will be. Trading Markstrom would increase our odds at a top 10 pick this year AND return assets.
This stupid ass team refuses to accept that you can’t win without multiple elite talents. Flames have ZERO. The numbers won’t care what the stupid team mandate is. A rebuild is coming whether Conroy and Edwards accept it or not.
Waste of an asset. You have no idea what the market will be like in the summer. Especially after he plays 20 games behind our new defense.
I hope this is just a leak for leverage. Otherwise I am disappointed that we aren’t moving the only valuable asset we have control over.

Damn. I get the value of keeping Markstrom but if they miss the opportunity to sell high….Markstrom’s been very up and down with Calgary. He could easily have a bad season next year at which point, you’re back to getting nothing.
Wolf needed and still needs more NHL games. For Conroy not to move either Markstrom nor Vladar all season long is just a mistake.

Thank god
Good we gonna need him for our playoff run
This is such a stupid, short sighted decision.
