La rencontre finale entre les Penguins de Pittsburgh et les Sénateurs d’Ottawa a eu lieu mardi soir au Centre Canadian Tire. Les deux rencontres précédentes entre ces clubs étaient toutes deux des matchs à haut score, mais ce match était différent. Les deux premières périodes se sont toutes deux déroulées sans but, mais se sont partagées un total de 16 minutes de pénalité. Le temps consacré aux équipes spéciales a rendu difficile la création d’un élan. À mi-chemin du 3e match, Ottawa a marqué le premier mais a été rapidement rappelé en raison de l’interférence du gardien de but. L’appel sans but a incité Ottawa à pousser plus fort. Ils ont répondu avec un bon but quelques minutes plus tard par Jake Sanderson. Au fil du temps, Pittsburgh a retiré son gardien de but pour un attaquant supplémentaire. Evgeni Malkin a fait passer la rondelle de la droite au point gauche. Malkin s’est retrouvé et sur son tir, a cassé son bâton. La rondelle a coulé jusqu’au filet comme une rondelle de jointure et a rebondi. Michael Bunting était assis sur la porte arrière, attendant de pouvoir insérer la rondelle libre. Dans le chaos de la mêlée, la rondelle a à peine franchi la ligne de but et a été déterminé comme étant un bon but après un bref examen. C’était le premier but de Bunting en tant que Penguin et son 14e cette saison. À égalité au bout de trois périodes, le match s’est prolongé. Drake Batherson a marqué le but gagnant, portant le score final à 2-1 pour Ottawa. I think Crosby is not shooting enough, instead trying to set teammates up. What’s interesting is that Pittsburgh were winning earlier in season when Sid was shooting more And Scoring. He needs to focus on shooting more and by doing that puts the team on his back
