Very arguably yes. Definitely for hockey

You succeed at getting 100% of the all-time brothers’ points records if you play a few NHL games.

    -Brent Gretzky

As an American I don’t like giving this title to a Canadian, but damm it’s hard to argue against it. Jordan was great and all, but he doesn’t dominate NBA’s statsheet the way Gretzky dominates the NHL’s.

EDIT: I’m on the NHL subreddit and I agree that Gretzky is North America’s greatest sportsman and I’m getting DOWNVOTED! Haha…wasn’t expecting that. You guys are great.

Bobby Hull or Gordie Howe though

Based on numbers alone, you have better odds of becoming the greatest hockey player, than you have becoming the greatest basketball player

Billions of people play basketball all over the world, in every single continent.

There are less than 10 countries who have high quality national hockey teams.

The more people play a sport, the harder it is to be great at that sport.

Based on numbers, Micheal Jordan had a greater amount of competition than Wayne Gretzky.

For people who say yeah but it was a different game and time then why weren’t they all putting up big numbers?

Gretzky won 9 MVPs, the most of any athlete in any major NA sport. I think that seals him as the GOAT.

    It’s Michael Jackson. He’s 6-0. Nuff said.
