  1. Canucks will find another D man for hughes. Let hronek ask a stupid price for a bottom team like columbus or SJ

  2. Hronek is gone–way too mercenary wasn't good defensively in the motor city average here

  3. When it comes to Hronek, the Canucks can't afford to pay him significantly more than Hughes, even though Quinn is right now an absolute bargain. You need some of your top players to take less if you want to have a contending team. Market value for him, regardless of whether his play is directly tied to Quinn or not, is higher than what his regular defence parter is making. If he won't accept what the Canucks are offering, he's an RFA, and given how he's played this year, the Canucks can get at least what they paid for him in a trade. The nature of the new NHL is that there's a lot of turnover and teams have to be able to figure out how to stay competitive year after year, or rebuild. He can be moved for a good return.

As for the Angry Elf, as he's known affectionately in Facebook groups, I have no problem putting him in the top 6. He drives play, digs pucks out of corners and generates offence. He's also making a hair under 5 under the cap, so you would hope he'd contribute like this. I like him in the top 6. Granted, that 3rd line was so good that when Joshua comes back, it's going to be incredibly tempting to put him back on that 3rd line and hope that Lindholm can anchor a 2nd line.

As for the new Elias, I'm not at all concerned about his offence. Sure, you want more from him in that area, but I paid close attention to him last night and what he does wins playoff games. I saw one sequence where he almost singlehandedly killed a penalty, and then calmly shot the puck just far enough up ice to facilitate a full and complete line change without taking an icing call. And he wins face-offs. Again, those are the things that help you win in the playoffs. I'd love it if he could score 7 or 8 goals in the last 13 games, but that's not really what he's here to do. He played like a Montreal, pre-LA version of Danault last night and if he can continue to do that regularly and chip in every once in a while, the team is better for it. If all he is in the playoffs is a really effective shutdown centre, fantastic.
