When the jersey came out it was said that he had in influence in the design so it’s really not a secret.
I always thought it was marketing. There was some serious shit talking going on about it when it came out so it looked like FO’s response was « fuck you guys Marty made it. »

Honestly i hated this jersey initially, after seeing it in action, it kind of grew on me. I also ordered a nico jersey jersey and it’s one of my favorites. Yes the front font/logo is hideous, but it’s not all that bad.
I thought the story for Marty’s original mask design had to do with uncertainty between playing in Utica (minors) and NJ (pro). The devils tail/horn would work no matter what team he was playing for, once he made the jump full time he opted to keep it at is was.
