C’est fou de penser que Leonsis essayait de quitter un endroit où nous avons des souvenirs comme celui-ci. L’argent parle, mais cet endroit compte tellement pour les fans des Caps. Si Leonsis et la ville le traitent correctement, je crois que le COA (ou peu importe comment nous l’appellerons à l’avenir) peut devenir un lieu que les gens chérissent et dont ils sont fiers, comme Fenway ou Wrigley. Si j’ai des enfants, je suis heureux de pouvoir les emmener à un match ici et de leur raconter ce que c’était de regarder Ovi allumer la lampe dans le même bâtiment.

Arenas don’t last generations. The only NBA arena built before 1990 is MSG. In the NHL, the only other arena older than 1990 is the Saddledome.
lol at Cap One becoming anything like 100+ year old ball parks like Fenway & Wrigley.
I’m *ALL* for Caps staying in Chinatown, and the city/Monumental investing in the arena and area – it’s way over needed. Many of the dining options have been closed or consolidated since late 2018 – long before the pandemmy. Rents for restaurant and retail were/are too high for any business to be profitable. (Source: I ran the Bar Louie in GP for several years.
But absolutely zero chance that any investment into that area leads to Cap One becoming a historical landmark, or in ANY way reaching 1/3 the social significance of Fenway, Wrigley, the Garden, or any other legendary venue.
Naive.
We had awesome scenes like this in DC at RFK and in the streets after 3 SB titles.

My dad (who got me into hockey by taking me to Hershey Bears games), told me about watching them tear down his beloved Ebbets Field when he was a kid in Brooklyn. What hurt him the most, he said, was that “they acted like it was nothing, just a building”. It really broke his heart. Not saying COA rises to that level, but people do embed memories and feelings into these places
