This applies if it bounces off the defending player in some manner or they kick/hand pass it in. Lindgren pushed it in with the blade of his stick, so they’ll call it a shot.

Do you guys think MacK really cares or wants to earn it this way?

I’m still confused why they awarded Toews the goal but then they stop there. If Toews gets the “goal”, Nate should get the “assist”.

I haven’t delved this far into an assist in a long time, remind me of the rules:
If a shot hits the goalie and bounces out to another player who scores, does the person who took the first shot get an assist because the goalie never possessed it?
Also, per this post, what is deemed a shot by a defender? Because it sure seems Mikko knocked his stick into the puck, so it wouldn’t be a « shot. »

(P.s. no defender would ever purposefully shoot at his own net. Seems like any own goal should come with assists)

God we are coping so hard lol. It’s okay, it’s okay people. A lot of you seem to care more than MacK does.

This does suck because it easily could have been awarded. The NHL is so dumb when it comes to thinking of what’s good for the sport and the game! Headlines of someone breaking a Gretzy record of that magnitude would get eyes on the game that don’t normally pay any attention.

In no way am I saying they should just give it to him, when you look at the play that was an earned assist, especially by the definition highlighted in the rules above! Aaargh…the cynic in me says if this was McD they wouldn’t hade taken it away. Also, how many points do you think Gretzy got during that streak that may have not been totally legal, with lack of camera angles, etc.

Whatever, I’m pissed about it and likely won’t let it go for a week or so!
