Could’ve maybe slipped the check if he didn’t stop and turn his back
teedlenumb
Theres no run up or stride before the hit. Howden turns and Zadorov essentially makes the play to pin to the boards. Howden continued to play and responded.
Its 2minutes but I would not be shocked to see the joke of the nhl suspend him.
ClassicChrisstopher
Suspensions because the player receiving a check puts themselves in a dangerous position right before receiving a hit is a slippery slope.
Openfacesandwich12
Turning his back to an opposing player who you know is going to check you, is stupid and reckless. There shouldn’t be a penalty
Openfacesandwich12
This isn’t road hockey, you can’t turn your back on guys to protect the puck and not expect to get hit.
EvanderKanesBalls
Let’s turn my back against the 6’6 250lb defence-man and see what happens
Great idea Howden

Not suspension worthy. Face the check and not the boards. If the NHL continues to push for suspensions on legit hockey play it will become a ‘no check’ sport. Let them play and make their money.

Why would It be??

Should be a minor penalty

Josh Mansons hit on JT Miller a couple weeks back was the exact same hit and not even a major.
So I’m going to say no. But we all know how Bettman loves his Golden ~~Child~~ Knights.
HockeyNut2
I think the Canuck player was fully engaged in the hit before the guy tried to reverse. I think it’s cool.
Suspicious_Walrus682
No. 2 min boarding. That’s all.
Anishinabeg
I don’t think it should be, especially after Manson’s flying elbow to JT Miller’s head wasn’t suspended (nor even given a 5 minute penalty).

Everyone rightfully clowns the DOPS but reddit users act basically the same way they act about Parros and the DOPS. You guys really pick and choose what plays you find dirty. In this case it’s clean and it’s Howdens fault. Next week when Nick Cousins or Rempe do the same hit they’ll be called the dirtiest people in the league

It was nothing more than a love tap, don’t turn your f’ing back on a player behind you.
hovix2
2mins only.
The « 1 » of the « 21 » only becomes fully visible at the last possible moment before impact. Howden could have just as easily pivoted to his left instead of his right to eat that check on his shoulder. He knew it was coming and chose to turn right instead of left. If Zadorov goes to pin as many suggest, and Howden pivots to his left to keep skating, it will be a holding call. If he plays the body and Howden spins to the right, it’s boarding. Guessing correctly is the only way to avoid a penalty here. Guessing incorrectly shouldn’t mean a suspension. Suspensions should be saved for malicious and intentional plays.

Angle from the right looks bad, angle from the left looks like the defender turned into the boards right before the hit. Boarding penalty, but not malicious enough for a suspension IMO.

I’d say no
Why would he be going in backwards into that situation. He knew the defender was going to hit him
MeatyMagnus
Not sure what 21 was thinking there. My take is DOP won’t blame the d-man on this play even if an injury is likely to have occured.

100% Vegas players fault, they teach you in pee-wee not to turn into the boards from a hit.
