He intentionally changed direction, but there’s no way of knowing if he intentionally changed it to hit Mika on purpose

Shitty collision, but I haven’t seen any angles that clearly show any sort of intent

I’m much angrier about the non-calls on Laf and Tro getting boarded at the end of the game

  2. Typical-Ad-6730

It looks like he was coasting following the play. Pageau changed his direction the same way too. You see he was tracking the play, points to the boards where he and Pageau were both looking for a second and then shifts in unison with Pageau. Mika was looking back to his right expecting the puck to come out in that direction.

I’m sorry but he could’ve moved out of Mika’s way. He clearly saw him skating to the bench and decided to stand right in his path with his elbow up. If it was not intentional and an accident, shouldn’t both of them fall? He was clearly bracing for impact.

Edit: at the very least should’ve been an interference

  4. SilentSaidd

idk I really don’t think it was intentional. And if it was like Mika still had so much opportunity to just avoid it completely. I’d way more pissed about the trip on Vesey by Varlamov and the two boards on Laf and Troch in the final minute. I think Lavi was just super pissed about all that, because those were dirty plays and he just bunched this one in there with them

  5. NicholasDeOrio

There is some weird delusion where people are trying to convince themselves (and everyone around them) that this was a dirty play. It wasn’t. It’s clearly incidental contact and it was unfortunate.

  6. therealdieseld

I don’t believe NEITHER guy saw the other. How little awareness would they need for that to be the case? Not dirty by Pelech but these guys aren’t air heads either.

  7. chickems

Can’t really tell if he ever saw Mika there or was focused on the play in front of him (which would make more sense)

  8. jkman61494

If Pelech didn’t pull his shit on Fox in the 2nd period I doubt anyone is making this assumption.

  9. JPmoneyman

He changed direction but I think he’s watching the puck, even if he is trying to bump Mika he should have his head up and could have sidestepped him pretty easily. I think Lavi knows it wasn’t intentional but he’s trying to get his team fired up knowing we’re going to have to manufacture some motivation for the last 3 games. It’s just gamesmanship by the coach.

  10. i really think this is a nothing burger.

i think the reality is, the 2 missed calls on a couple shitty hits at the end of the game, the refs ignoring lav at the end, then the questions following the game all lead to lav having an irrational opinion on the mika collision, and thats fine. he’s got his teams back and there isn’t anything wrong with that.

  11. Rempe better start on start on Saturday.

  12. BlueKoi_69

So do we change the Potvin sucks chant?? 😄

  13. Diceeeeeee

If anything he was just trying to give him a minor bump or get in his way. I’m
not convinced it was intentional but if it was it certainly wasn’t to lay some nasty shoulder to chin hit.

  14. TreeFugger69420

I really don’t care what people think of it but if it gets the boys fired up to think it was intentional then great.

  15. Atravis527

If you play hockey, he’s very obviously following the play, and where the puck is, and isn’t even looking at Mika. You see a players stick just off screen up ahead drifting the same way.

  17. nyr9435

Stop. Pelech is scanning the ice like a player should do and he probably saw MZ on a north/south path rather than an East/west path towards him, then he goes back to focusing on the play. This is on Mika, 100%. You need to know where everyone is and not have tunnel vision so narrow you don’t see a guy at your 11 o’clock. To think Pelech saw him then decided to take a spot in Mika’s line and hope that Mika would skate his chin directly into his shoulder while not looking is some tinfoil-hat wearing shit. They had a lazy game last night (they earned it).

FWIW: Mika didn’t slew foot Palmieri either.

  18. Sea-Card-8550

It was definitely an accidentally on purpose thing. He’ll get what’s coming to him in a few days. Next game is going to be awesome.

Sucks to lose, but I think this is the perfect time for them to take a loss like this. A nice punch in the mouth to wake them up and get them angry for the play offs.

  19. Shoddy_Reserve788

Clearly accidental contact. It’s sucks that our guy got hurt this is some conspiracy theory shit.

  20. vargz96

Both players had zero situational awareness. Stop with this narrative of it being intentional

  21. FarmerRadiant2822

The “this is getting embarrassing” thing is the lamest take. I’m sorry you went to a mediocre college and are self-conscious about it, but no one gives a fuck if you are embarrassed when people disagree with you about hockey plays.

  22. Anyawnomous

Players will intentionally block the path to the bench just to slow players down. Mika gotta be more aware in this instance. I sure hope he’s okay (ie. No concussion)

  23. Pelech knew where Mika was on the ice, skated directly into his path, stopped and stood there, and got his arm up to prepare for contact if Mika proceeded on that path.

Shame on Mika for not being aware of what was going on around him. It’s the NHL and players need to keep their heads on a swivel at all times.

But don’t tell me that it was all just a coincidence and Pelech didn’t see Mika coming.

  24. MacPhisto__

There was almost no way that the hit was intentional. They both just weren’t looking.

  25. jgrangers2

People have to stop assuming everything is malicious. The game moves fast and things just happen. If Mika looks up at all he easily avoids this. It’s the same with the « slewfoot ». People are overanalyzing replays at granular speeds. Neither play was malicious, just unfortunate accidents.

  26. MildGooses

Love how everyone here is saying it was an accident but I guarantee the narrative will be “Stupid Ranger fans think this was dirty!!”

  27. DanTheMortgageMan

Why are people still talking about this? On to the next one.

  28. Ridgew00dian

This is the first angle that I can say to myself it looks pretty intentional. I wasn’t seeing it in all other shots people were saying was clear evidence. But this one – I see it.

  29. Direct_Crab6651

Dude saw Mika out the corner of his eye and made sure he “accidentally” made contact with him like this ……. Clear as day when you watch it

He was also being a total scumbag all night and should have gotten like 4 other penalties at least

If you don’t think you can “accidentally” collide with someone on purpose then you clearly have never watched Brad Marchant play ….. does this crap all the time

  30. Tommybrady20

Keep your head on a swivel. The slippery slope this opens up if you think this is dirty is pretty steep.

  31. Acceptable-Heron6290

He better watch for Rempe to not change his direction on Saturday

  32. Mr-Dicklesworth

I honestly don’t know why the coaches/players are focusing on this so much. Mika legitimately skates directly into him like his eyes were closed. Even if Pelech did stick an elbow out, Mika is a moron for basically gliding into it.

The Trocheck hit was the really bad one that needs retribution for

  33. _mynameisclarence

That’s a don’t mind if I do sort of thing. He knew what he was doing. Dirty as hell.

  34. AdAmazing8187

It’s the elbow sticking out and braced for impact that gets me

  35. Teknicsrx7

We need to let this go, it’s clearly an accident

  36. BillyFever

I think it would’ve been reasonable to call interference (especially given some of the baby soft interference calls that I’ve seen called against the Rangers in the last few weeks) but I’m not sure the replays I’ve seen are enough to convince me this was intentional, and even if the hit was intentional I don’t think you can reasonably argue that there was an intent to injure.

  37. Dissmass1980

Didn’t this kinda thing start a riot in Toronto once?

  38. Dissmass1980

I saw it last night. It seemed like an accident to me.

  39. Slosh10141

Rangers fan and I don’t think he did. He wasn’t looking. Let’s not be “that fan.”

  40. interactivemark

It’s a hockey play. You beat his bitch ass down on Saturday.
