I go back and forth with how I feel about this entire situation. I feel for the victim in this situation having to see him move on in a very public/successful way but I also wonder about people actually learning from their mistakes and given second chances.
Shenji06
This might be the best move for the player and organization do it on the last game and it doesn’t affect next year if he makes the team or rejoins the team next year.
I am not excusing what he done but alot of athletes did much worse in this sport and others and hide and covered up with pr or just straight up denied anything with no remorse or guilt.
He faced the music and and admitted is wrongs and followed consoling and programs and « »earned his chance » » at redemption
Now what he makes off his opportunity and the future is on him.

The comment section of this particular news coverage page on The Athletic was certainly understanding and forgiving of this player… /s

The guy made a mistake as a teen, was sentenced guilty and was punished accordingly. He made everything that was asked by the Canadiens and by the NHL.
I seriously cannot wait to stop hearing/reading about it.
Electrical_Analyst65
It is an interesting situation with him. What he did was horrible and it likely caused great mental damage to that young lady. Professional sports is a privilege and not a right so did he give up the privilege with his actions. The other side of it is he was a child in his own right. Since then he has been a model citizen and has done everything that has been asked of him by the League and the Habs. Chatted with my wife about the situation and she feels the kid deserves a chance.

My kid thru the hockey world knows one of his closest friends and a past girlfriend and they speak very highly of him and say he is a great kids and very sincere that just made a very stupid mistake after having a consensual encounter. I also know people who know the family as well and say they are an excellent family

Good God… how long does this guy have to cower before the woke mob? He’s paid his dues. He did the crime and has done his time.
Garth_M
Great timing to bring him and Hutson like that at the end of the season. It will probably help management a lot in their assessment of their players for the upcoming decisions they will have to make in the summer
j112211
If the league punished every player for sharing nudes with their friends when they were a teenager, then half the league wouldn’t be allowed to play. Let the kid have a second chance
BigBill58
I’m not at odds with him getting a second chance. He paid his dues, he made a mistake, end of story. His leash will be the shortest of anyone in the league when it comes to off ice conduct. My only issue is that there seems to be a small segment of the fan base that is trying to frame this as a redemption story. I’m not sure that rebounding from self inflicted character damage is something we want to be glorifying. Happy to see he has at least convinced those in charge that he is remorseful and committed to being a better person. Seeing people with comments about the family being a good family, and his own character being touted as excellent outside of the bad decision is also encouraging. Hope he has success, I’ll be rooting for him.

The rehabilitation of Logan Mailloux is complete. Looking forward to seeing him don the bleu, blanc, et rouge tonight.
pushaper
the NHL is obviously taking this stuff seriously if they have been keeping track of this issue multiple times in the past 8-10 months…
They could have set up a monthly phone call where Mailloux leaves Parros or whoever a message saying « nothing to report » or the habs send an email on the first of every month saying something to the same extent and they could have said something along the lines of « Mailloux has been following protocol ». I get that everyone wants to move on from this (the victim allegedly too) but is it that hard to seem like you have some sort of an HR department?

Berges parting gift. This guy is a legit offensive threat with a mean streak

It’s the last game, it’s essentially a pity call up. Let the kid have this one.
cyber_dude
That won’t stop sportsnet from putting sexual assault trigger warnings on all their posts about him in the future tho
DFF_Canuck
I’m fine to accept him back. But his leash so short IMO. We have such a great culture building here, and if Mailloux steps out of line in any way – SA related or not – I hope we are quick to bury him.
But, if we believe in learning and growing, he has done nothing but make the right moves since the scandal. So if he’s not worthy of a shot, then who ever will be?
NOFXpunklinoleum
If he plays well, we’ll stop hearing about his past.
If he shits the bed, people will keep bringing it up.
Hockey fans would forgive a murder if the guy scored 80 points and was a beast defensively.
Bentley2004
Will this ever go away?

I’ll come out and say that I was hyped about the pick since it happened while I was watching the draft.
Kid did a mistake, I know that, but I feel it was blown out of proportion massively.
If you read the reports, you’ll know that the picture he shared to his friends was one of her shoulder/bra strap/hair from behind while she was laying in bed. Is that wrong? Yes, don’t take pictures of people in intimate or vulnerable situations without their consent, obviously. But he didn’t SA anyone and never leaked any of her nudes.
He was a dumb 17yo that wanted to flex to his homies about fucking an adult. It didn’t take me long to forgive his action.
I’m really excited to see him play in the NHL, dude looks real good.

the only thing that makes me feel icky about this whole thing are all the people (like many in these comments) just saying “he was just a kid and he made a mistake, it’s no big deal etc”. the fact is, if the victim had been your daughter or sister or mother you’d have a very different tone… the whole locker room talk and hockey culture of “boys being boys” is bullshit (Team Canada fiasco anyone?) and needs to change/evolve, and this would have been a good example of how to deal with second chances if it wasn’t for all the macho dipshits blowing off the act with a “he was just a kid”.
Yeah he was just a kid and made a serious mistake, hopefully he learns from it but what’s the incentive to? Like, is he going to not play in the NHL if he disrespects a woman? not sure…
How do we get male hockey players to stop being assholes to women?
Acceptable_Major4350
Not as an excuse but hockey Canada and NHL players / management have done far worse, and that gets buried by PR.
This is a story of redemption, I don’t know the kid but sounds like he did what he could to right a wrong.

not saying i hate him or anything, i like to keep an open mind w young players, just a genuine question – id really like to know what “work” he’s done to better himself? i haven’t seen anything abt him attending any workshops or doing anything of note for women to validate his redemption.
yes, as far as we know he hasn’t done anything like that again, but he really only got so much as a slap on the wrist. hell, he even tried to abstain from the draft, which was admirable, but he was still picked, and the habs organization has been trying to say he’s grown and that he’s changed now, but id really like to see some actual proof of this change. whether it be attending workshops or something as simple as uplifting women and advocating for women’s rights in a public space. i understand he was 17 at the time, but 17 is old enough to understand privacy and consent. what he did was wrong, and id like to see a little more advocacy either from the organization or from mailloux himself.
again im not hating on him, and im excited to see the type of player he becomes for the habs, i would just like to see a little more substance in terms of his growth as a person instead of the organization feeding us some lines and hoping that’s enough. actions do speak louder than words after all
