Wow he really wanted out of new york… i wonder why??
what i heard about lehner is that he wanted term but couldnt get it, so he was taking a couple days to think over the 2 year, 5 mil per deal. during the time he was thinking, the isles went out and reached an agreement with varlamov so that when lehner came back to the table, he had pretty much already been replaced. hawks talked to him sunday night and monday he signed with them since the isles situation fell through. according to him, they ended it, not him. i love this deal for the hawks since crawford is likely to retire, especially if he gets injured and/or the hawks don't feel like re-signing him at this point with all his issues. lehner can prove himself to be our future guy. really hyped about it. no matter what happens, they werent using that cap space on anyone else and its no commitment beyond this season. no risk, lots of possible reward for both parties

Hi Post to Post!! Good looking Blackhawks gear. I have a theory what if the reason is Chicago wants to win the Stanley cup with Crawford’s last year. Lehner becomes our number 1. He probably wanted to sign a 1 year so he could stay with the hawks after this year.

If Robin lenher would have sign the 2 year contract with the Islanders he would had to become ”the Guy”. And because of that he choosed Chicago where he cab hide behind crawford a little and he wont have the same pressure.
Lehner said that Islanders took Varlamov behind his back without telling him about their plan & he feels cheated or somehow not as much important longer to them so he agreed to move to a team that wanted him more

Lehner himself denies the story on which your video is premised. He says that he didn't respond to the Islanders' final offer immediately because he had wanted a longer deal and wanted to think it over for a couple of days but basically wanted to stay in New York. It sounds like his answer would have been "yes." But by the time he was done thinking, they Isles had reached an agreement with Valarnov.

Lehner probably wanted more than 5 million per year. On a one year deal he could earn a higher aav on his next contract. Also for New York a high aav wouldnt make sense because griess had comparable numbers to lehner.

– Yes, I've heard it, but that's not true. We did not receive such a bid. They only gave me a few hours to decide, as they stated that they had to look at other goalkeeping options. I was prepared to enter a clause stating that they could demolish the contract if I were to get a relapse, but I have been sober now for over a year and know that I will not get any relapse. But in the NHL one cannot have such clauses, I was told.
