  1. They didn't almost play themselves into a playoff spot over the past few weeks, but rather played themselves out of a spot over the majority of the season.

And they ended this season as the third best team in the bottom half of the league. Way to go, Pens!

With the aging of the core I doubt few, if any of them, will remember what they figured out over these past few weeks that they'll be able to carry into next season.

Who knows how they'll be. Will we see Chris Leturnover and Geno Sulkin for most of the year again? Maybe they can take a page out of Crosby's book and try to improve their respective games during the off-season. For Letang it's the mental and Geno it's the emotional.

Aside from Crosby, the player I have the most respect for is Rust. Remember how he just couldn't finish scoring chances early in his career and how he spent that one offseason shooting from all angles and positions and showed improvement the next season?

None of this desire to improve seems to have ever been exhibited by Letang and Malkin and I now can see a future with the Pens being saddled with two contracts more burdensome than Jeff Carter's. And on top of that, there's Sullivan's stubbornness to play veterans.

Now that Dubas has moved Jake, unloading one or both of Letang and Malkin should be emotionally easier and hopefully something is done before the start of next season. (Yeah, I know. So who can we get to replace them? Who cares. To paraphrase and adapt what Branch Rickey said to Ralph Kiner – we finished in the bottom half with you, we can finish in the bottom half without you).

My sentiment towards the Pen's organization is best summed up by the words of King Arthur, son of King Uther Pendragon, to the Black Knight: "You make me sad".

  2. I think next season – these guys are gonna be big … I’m really proud of what they have accomplished in the last month – & it wasn’t just SID like everyone loves to say … I’ve seen complete team efforts here against ALL of the BEST in the National Hockey League . even though I’m heart broken right now … I choose THIS 100/100 versus a month ago after Jake was traded & the team reacted like you’d expect them to for a few games & everyone said to “burn it all down”
that was not just “good” but GREAT HOCKEY by my favorite team these last few weeks . & if we got Karlsson finally allowed to do his thing & finally meshing with this team & of course BUNTING! doing his thing & lifting Geno up – along with the new young D Pair of Jack & Shea & PO being what we’ve wanted all this time … & of course SID being SID … we got something … this season was strange – I watched every single game – & there were a few games where we lost & I was like “but wait no we won that game though ! What??!🫨😵‍💫🤯🥴”
NHL gotta decide to do some things & I hope Sully addresses them about it over the off season – cause I’m sure he has a list of all the things I’m thinking about . not making excuses about losing by the one single point – cause there are a ton of things that went wrong – including having 2 players from the TOP line injured for a little didn’t help … well anyway – proud of what the guys were able to do towards the end . & I left out RUSTY & DOC – Sid might be the heart & soul of the team – but Rusty & OC have become the blood in the veins

  3. Strange scoreboard to be watching for the Flyers and Habs. Red Wings score with 3 seconds left to tie it and destroy the Pens. The Flyers pull the goalie with 3 minutes and destroy the Pens. At least we got to watch Sid again this season. We are lucky to get 82 games out of 87 and Geno.

  4. Would you be talking about ANY of those subtractions if it wasn't for that disgusting, pathetic Powerless Play? If that was even REMOTELY competent they'd have made the playoffs easily.

The highlights of the run for me were St. Ivany and Sid of course. Oh, and O'Connor! He was terrific.

  5. Pens miss the playoffs 2 years in a row. If we keep the same roster composition for next season, they won't go anywhere. Get some young studs and rebuild the team.

  6. Pens scared the crap out of Rangers. I think some of them wanted tank to the Isles (in the two games just played) to help keep Pens out of the playoffs. Also Boston beats us in Pitt and then loses 1:0 to the Caps? possible tank there too. No one wanted any piece of us in the playoffs.

  7. Too many were happy to go into OT and lose . Carter was a bust . Letang giving up too many goals not playing Defense . Still crying about Jake ? Geezzz , let it go already . We need to draft young , stay at home Defensemen . Forget trying pick up more and more Forwards . And stop picking up old , worn out players just because they were good 15 years ago .

  8. I can't see that they learned anything this team was just like last year, maybe even worse.

  9. I'm glad it's over. I'll miss watching them play. But I won't miss their PP and I won't miss this season. Thanks Sid for another GREAT year. Your efforts were wasted sadly.

  10. They dug their own grave by blowing leads and leaving 12 points out there.

They made a valiant effort, but it was too late. They seamed their fate with multiple missed opportunities during games.

  11. Watching Mtl Boston and Philly all play like absolute dogshit to fuck us over makes me hope they go through the longest droughts ever. What a trash way to end a season
