1. LETS GO CAPS! To every other team that was in contention, great effort guys! Pens had a great last stretch, and the Wings didn't let up with two comebacks in a row! Flyers, uh, thanks for pulling your goalie? XD

  2. I get Flyers going on extreme offence to secure the the W but this empty netter was an extremely demoralzing end to the Red Wings's playoff story. And I'm not even a Wings fan.

  3. You don’t often see teams pull the goalie late in regulation in a tie game, but in this circumstance, the Flyers had no choice. They needed a regulation win to stay alive., because an overtime game would have given the Capitals a point (even if they lose in overtime, unless they do something foolish like pull the goalie in overtime like the Wild did not too long ago). That being said, I do question the timing of when they did it, because it took maybe 10 seconds after they pulled the goalie for Oshie to score into the empty net. This has nothing to do with the Flyers trying to “screw over” the Red Wins or Penguins. They needed a regulation win to stay alive in the playoff hunt. Unfortunately, it will get more attention, because the Red Wings also won (scored the tying goal with 3 seconds left in regulation, and won 5-4 in the shootout), and would have been in the playoffs if the Capitals had lost.

  4. There was no reason to do this. Nobody wanted to play the penguins or the wings in the playoffs the way they’ve been playing. I mean you couldn’t script it any better. I’d be embarrassed to be a flyer tonight… never seen a team give up while tied.

  5. Such an anticlimactic ending…I don’t think the people who made this rule envisioned a team clinching a trip to the playoffs with a empty net game winner.

  7. Wings, Pens, whoever can blame themselves…91 points is almost never enough, win more games. Caps are lucky

  8. I screamed out of joy! What an exciting game. Too The whiners in Pitt and Detroit. Up hours! You had 82 games to figure it out. Caps are in!

  9. It’s not an odd empty net goal if you understand why they did it.
Had to win in regulation and if Detroit lost then the flyers would be in on GOAL DIFFERENCE.

  10. I am not a Capitals or Red Wings fan, however I think the NHL should review the tie breaking procedures. This is clear evidence that they reward OT losses over OT wins. Capitals: 40 wins, 31 losses, 11 OT losses; Red Wings: 41 wins, 32 losses, 9 OT losses. Plus, do the math and in OT, the Red Wings won 11 times and lost only 9 times whereas in OT the Capitals only won only 4 times and lost 11 times. Regulation wins should only take precedence if they are deadlock tied with wins in general. 41 is greater than 40. The Red Wings won more games! period!

Edit: Simply said: Red Wings 41 wins, 41 losses vs Capitals 40 wins, 42 losses.

  11. Why did the Flyers pull the goalie with the game tied? I'm sure Red Wings and Penguins fans are livid about this.

  12. you learn this as a kid , you have to Play your game,
and this is all you can do , if you think too much like the Flyers you deserve et

  13. Don't understand it.
Long time CAPS fan so I'll take it. Lindgren has been a Revelation. Coach Carberry so young and got this squad of aging underachievers into the SC playoffs? Prolly gonna get blown out by the Rags but it's still a great story. 1 thing the CAPS have going in: maybe the hottest goalie in the NHL.

  14. NY Rangers must have been good boys saying their prayers every night & now laughing their heads off!! Panarin + the boys are a coming!!

  15. Shouldn’t be allowed to do this to mess with other teams playoffs hopes, Tortorella should have an unsportsmanlike fine
