  1. Loved me some Donny Grapes, sucks he's gone. He's not a great head coach, but he'll be a great assistant elsewhere. Good luck, Don

  2. I gotta say now with Granato gone, would it be a good idea for the Sabres to hire Gerard Gallant as their next coach. I mean look what he did for Vegas in their first. I think if he has the rights tools on the team which the Sabres do have, I think he can be a good coach for them. But then again I look back at what did for the Rangers and wonder would he do something to the Sabres if he gets hired. Anyway please whoever reads this let me know your thoughts.

  3. Sabres need to improve 3rd and 4th lines, a few veterans with grit may help…goL tending looks good,.My pick is the Ranger assistant, former Sabre..Amen, Rasmus new captain!

  4. Buffalo GM actually did try to do a lot in last 2 seasons but NO free agents will sign here and if a guy has a no movement clause Buffalo is on the list. He tried to get Timo Meier, Jacob Chick-Run, goalie, a center age 27-28(didn’t waive no move clause), so the GM is trying but it’s better to just build through the draft, they have youngest team in league and many young guys they drafted are getting better each season, Quinn and Peterka will get 30 goals next year, Tuch, Skinner 20-25, Tage 30-40, Dahlin 20, etc. Buffalo just needs some grit, a Mike Peca type player

  5. I’m surprised. I thought Granato would return with new assistants. May actually be the other way around (Appert with old assistants?)

I vote for Mike Sullivan if the Penguins fire him

  6. Wrong decision but at least they have done it at the correct moment. Chief Berube incoming hopefully

  7. A lot about winning hockey is effort. Will your players 'go through a wall' for you? Granato is a great guy, and did an amazing job building the confidence of players like Thompson, Sahlin, and Mittelstadt. But it seems he isn't a 'motivator' like a Tortorella or a Mike Keenan. Sometimes you need a coach you an afraid of, to get the maximum effort! You can see the Sabres first-period goal differential was just awful, so the boys were not ready out of the gate…

But – let's not forget this is a young team loaded with talent. Buffalo needs to add tougher players and big bodies, get tougher, and I think they will be fine next year!

  8. If they hire Appert, the AHL coach, then they are doing the same thing when the hired Granato. They need a coach that won't coddle the players, be willing to sit people in the press box when needed, not play top players on the 4th line, not play bottom 6 players on the top line and top PP and knows how to use a timeout.

  9. Sabres, Rangers, Devils, and Predators are all done with their regular seasons, Rangers and Preds now awaiting the start of the playoffs while Sabres and Devils begin preparations for next season.

The final playoff spot in the East could be determined tonight, with both front runners Washington and Detroit playing. The Wings complete the second half of a home-and-home with Montreal while the Caps are in Philly against the Flyers. A win by Washington gives them the final spot, wins by Detroit and Philly gives the Wings the final spot, wins by Montreal and Philly opens the door for Pittsburgh to grab the final spot with a win in their final game tomorrow against the Islanders. Philly needs to win in regulation against Washington and hope Detroit and Pittsburgh lose their games in regulation (not sure if an Islanders OT win helps the Flyers or Pens) in order to claim the final spot.

  10. "Who will be the next head coach of the Buffalo Sabres?" should be preceeded by "Why would anyone want to be the next head coach of the Buffalo Sabres?"

  11. Great Video, as usual, Mike. I told you in my last comment, that, it's not going to help until they send Kevyn Adams away, too, even though I think that he has done a decent job, he has not done enough. I think that it is time for The Pagulas to do their Cleaning House thing. I'm glad to see that, as usual, we agree on this. Of the 2, Granato deserved more leeway, since it took him time to get the player chemistry, towards the end of the season, he gets them to go in the right direction. I think if they're going to go anywhere, you get A New GM & Berube as Coach. Let me know what you think

  12. Don Granato is a smart hockey coach better suited for NCAA or junior hockey. His lack of experience playing in the NHL and understanding of the "code" is what cost him his job. Too many teams were taking liberties/cheap shots at the Sabres younger players to slow them down and change momentum and he nor the team knew how to respond, some signs of response were seen in last few games but too little too late. All you have to do is look at what Rempe has brought to the Rangers, there skilled players are playing a foot taller now, this is exactly the kind of player/coach the Sabres need for there confidence moving forward.

  13. I think the Sabres are a warning about the pitfalls of trading everyone away to rebuild through the draft. You know what I mean. Tank.

You better get it right. If you don’t, you will have a bunch of young players with no established culture in place.

Keep going for 13 years and fans start feeling apathetic. Then the environment gets really toxic.

As a Sabres fan, I don’t know how they fix this. It seems like a self-sustaining cycle of be bad, try to dig out, fail, start again.

  14. My opinion is people that say Adams “did nothing“ don’t listen to his press conferences or understand his long-term goals. Everything he does is very calculated for a reason.

  15. Sad, next team that will sign him will be fortunate. He is a great man and a good coach as well. Sabres are lacking winning veteran experience but they will be a force to reckon with in the years to come.

  16. As a Sabres fan…. Adam’s tried there is a thing called a no trade clause so you can’t say they did nothing when their hands were tied. That’s why I’m not a big fan of people talking about a team they don’t follow passionately.

  17. Sounds like Kevin Adams has a plan in place to get the right guy for the job, very clear that he’s going to bring in a veteran head coach who can raise the compete level. Coach Q?

  18. Armchair GM here:

    To BUF: Elias Pettersson

    To VAN: Tage Thompson
    Matthew Savoie
