  1. If the idea of the Theme Park District is to be able to "tax" patrons 9%, couldn't the owner of the development simply charge 9% higher prices up-front instead?

  2. I don't see any negatives from this bill or idea, lol its only costing the people who wanna support the team, and there are very few big businesses around that don't get some kinda tax breaks, idk, seems like a solution that could be used across the country IMO

  3. If its just the arena itself that is considered a "theme park district" i think that would be fine. If its the entire plot then fuck that. AZ should get tax rev off all the hotels and businesses in that area not just AM.

  4. Meruelo likes to constantly talk about how he will buy the land and build the project with his own money, but he conveniently leaves out the part where once it is built, he doesn’t want to pay any property taxes to the city of Phoenix. Theme Park District, more like Tax Avoidance District.

  5. I give it about a 20% chance that Muruelo gets everything passed and built within the 5 years. It pretty much all comes down to the June 27th land auction but after that we’ll know what happens. If he gets it, there’s a chance he’ll build the arena. If he doesn’t get it, the yotes are officially history.

  6. ENOUGH with this "district" kurapp; its about needed in a place like Phoenix as they need TWO hockey teams. No, ALL they need is a downtown arena and they are back in business. Downtown Phoenix is already a "district". Thats it. Build downtown, build it with a steep seating grade (like Vegas, Montreal, and Detroit), don't make the seats too close, and starting counting your money.

  7. Meruelo can't pay the hotel bills, but he can fund all of this?? Don't see it happening. If he had agreed to the lease in Glendale, the Coyotes would still be there. Maybe not a great spot, but they'd still be in Arizona

  8. This sounds eerily similar to the special Disney district in Florida. Which raises a question. Who pays for services for that district? Police, fire protection, road maintenance, etc.

  9. Sounds to me like this is 100% public funding. I applaud the local media for doing their due diligence and uncovering this tactic to weasel money out of taxpayers.

  10. State senator Juan Mendez sounds like Ben Shapiro🤣. Alex Meruelo reminds me of the con artist in a Simpsons episode. A shyster who sold faulty monorails to several towns, including Springfield.

  11. I called this in my coverage of this saga. My guess on why the Diamondbacks haven't announced their plans yet for Chase Field and the surrounding area. It's essentially a revenue bond for construction.

  12. All looking for loopholes to get free money. Pay for it on their own dame dime 49ers, Giants and Warriors did no reasons these other teams can’t.

  13. This is exactly how tempe failed. Politics and unions not getting a taste doesn't work for them. So they will dupe the citizens just like they did in tempe. Remember every time you vote for these clowns they don't care about you just them and their money. And that goes all the way to the white house.

  14. It was going to be privately financed. Then politicians got involved. Now the payback are inline. So they need money to stuff the pig troff. So they need tax money.
