You have no idea how thrilled I was to watch the Oilers win playing boring hockey, these kinds of wins are so huge for the confidence of a team. Track meets are fun, but you won't win 16 games and a cup doing just that. The Kings were beat at their own game despite playing very well, they defended extremely well and were very physical, keeping almost everything to the outside. They had urgency and jump at home, but got burned on special teams again. I understand that the Oilers generated very little which is boring to watch, but this was easily their best defensive game of the season. There was hardly a poorly executed play and very few large mistakes that led to scoring chances, Evan Bouchard (who never seems to get attention when he does play well defensively) was excellent all over the ice tonight, such poise. There was proper commitment to every battle and most importantly, Edmonton didn't try to force anything and give the Kings lots of chances in transition which this team has been prone to do. This was a very mature performance, poor offensive showing aside. Both teams had their powerplay chance on weak calls and the Kings could not get it done. They have too many players not making a difference right now, PLD most notably.
Kings actually played well the shots were 33 to 13. There downfall was they took a penalty and the Oilers capitalized and that was it. Give Skinner credit for shutting the door.
Oilers under Coffee can defend. Tons of credit to Skinner, but also Oilers did a good job of taking that Kings puck/game control and collapsing it down into not many high-quality shots at all.
all the Kings needed was just one lucky bounce. probably the best game they had played in months. Hoping for the best back in Alberta, it's going to be a war. GO KINGS GO.
I watched this entire game. I couldn’t believe the domination I was witnessing. The Kings made Edmonton look like the Oilers at the beginning of the regular season. 13 shots on net… Edmonton did not deserve this win. Bit, since Edmonton is my third team, I’m happy.
The Kings truly are the most boring goddamned team in the league right now. Like watching a hockey game played in spaghetti and quicksand. Every time there's a potential chance, you can bet 3 Kings are gonna spawn out of nowhere to swarm and shut it down lmao. Skinner absolutely standing on his head for the win though. Thankfully, it didn't go to OT What would be worse than a game this boring? Having it drag on past midnight.. oh myy goddd
I kept saying all game, it feels like we’re gunna lose this… but maybe the oilers are finally mature enough to win a tight game.
The kings swarmed tonight, the oilers survived. Skinny stole a game for us and Vinny is playing solid hockey.
Comparing the oilers and van to there series is preposterous, the oilers have dominated the series while Vancouver have been outplayed for most of the series
This series looks a bit like the Vancouver/Nashville series: the team that gets the most shots and spends the most time in the offensive zone doesn't necessarily win. The key is the personnel: when you have the quality of Nurse, McD and Drai (similar to Hughes, Miller and Boeser) you can use the power play — and overtime — to your advantage.
the frauds lost at their own game
The Oilers can only beat the Kings.
As an oilers fan the oilers Canucks series scares me because they were person handled by the Canucks all regular season i know its playoffs but i feel the Canucks have the oilers number
Oilers: we're recalling campbell…
Skinner: hold my beer.
Skinner in games 3 + 4:
• .984 Sv%
• 0.50 GAA
• +4.23 GSAx
🧱🧱🧱
Statistically, Only half of the teams make it to the second round. 😉
Oilers and Canuck's– yes!!!
Oilers been taking 40 shots a game against the Kings until tonight, Canucks are basically at 16 a game for 4 games aainst Nashville. Next round the Oilers have unfinished business against the Canucks. Canucks will put up a good fight, but there is no planet where prime McDrai let the Oilers lose to Vancouver in round 2. The Oilers fanbase is just as rabid, maybe even louder and it's thier time. As a neutral fan. It will be a fun series but it's time for McDavid to lift the cup
Same old crap against Oilers for kings sick of special teams being soo atrocious against them. Best game by kings but Oilers had right game plan and worked. Changes coming up to here in L.A wsy to inconsistent all year and need right coach. Dont trust blake anymore
One of the best defensive efforts I've seen the Oiler's put on all year. For a 1 goal (total) game, that was actually pretty enthralling
13 shots in total and you win a game… I'm not sure if that's a new playoff record?
As an Oilers fan, the idea of facing Vancouver is scary and something I wish would happen in the conference finals rather than the second round. Vancouver has not only played great all season, they've had the Oilers number as well. Granted, 3 of the 4 Vancouver wins were against a struggling Oilers team with Woody as head coach, but the 3-1 win late in the season (even though I think McD was missing from that game?) was a solid game from them. It was still a really important game for the Oilers to possibly win the division to hold down home ice advantage.
The idea that Vancouver won't make it past the second round is pretty silly. That said, I hope they don't! 😅
I like what you think … same
There needs to be a dead puck era magnet for these playoffs
Oilers-Knights sounds like a wonderful conference final.
LA looks lost out their, yeah they dominated the game but they are the worst team in the west witch if they versed dallas easy sweep for them
My thoughts? I like how when the Canucks won Game 1, 3 and 4 so did the Oilers. Great thoughts, Yes I know lol.
Experience boring Kings hockey
Boring hockey only works when you’re winning. You need to get 2 goals early and then play that annoying 1-3-1 style. But oilers got that early goal and were glad to play the slow Kings style of hockey
Kings are done, Rittich gave his best and we still lost.
The question of “does this style of hockey work” is completely irrelevant. Every team in the league has sandbagged playing every system imaginable. Oilers have been sandbagged for decades playing various styles of hockey. Its less about the system its about the pieces on the board and how well those pieces can play together, and how much heart they have. The Oilers can have the best system but they will eventually get eliminated this playoffs when much higher caliber teams test Skinner. The similar story is with the Kings but they have lost a lot of heart and soul this season as well as never really being able to find line combinations that produce heavily. They are in the playoffs with a Interim coach. That shows how serious they are about the playoffs this year. They aren’t meant to win this series as they are far from a healthy cohesive team in the same sense the Oilers are. Pieces aren’t fitting together no matter how hard the Kings have been trying to bang them into place. My humble opinion.
That was painful. Completely understandable and excruciating painful.
Still preferred to face the Stars in the first round. Now, what to do? We’re in the same predicament as the Leafs right now!!!!!
This review was better than the actual game! Had me losing it the first 2 minutes
It was kinda wild watching the oilers tonight. They usually have their bread and butter game plan and if it’s getting stopped or not working for them they’ll jus keep trying over and over in hopes or until it works. Tonight they came out 2nd period and played a different style then I figured they even had in them. Everyone played much slower and tighter defensively
I am on the east coast. Saturday evening I fell asleep after the 1st Period the Vegas vs. Stars game. These game start times have been ridiculous.
really good defence and goaltending for the oilers! i would like to have some different lines score more, especially when the other team is focusing on macdavids line
THG: there is a lot "teams" there don't make it out of the first round
høhø I see what you did there
Game 2 was sort of Kings beating Oilers at their own game, this one was the opposite.
Apart from the shots total, I dont think yall should be drawing the same comparison to Canucks… Nashville was getting dangerous shots and looked like they were gonna win. This game for moments early kings looked like they were better (they got away with alot in that time), but everything was kept to outside and never really felt dangerous. Also theres a difference between winning games like these, and constantly having to win games like these.
Oilers showed the Kings how to play the 1-3-1 and win
These games are so late into the night for me I can’t watch them knowing I have work the next morning lol
Canucks won't get into the playoffs.
As an oilers fan, im rlly scared going against the canucks in the 2nd round..
The kings suck and Edmonton will not make it out of the second round
I mentioned earlier that I like the assist stats as a barometer of the "real game" being played "underneath" the actual score. So, in this series LAK have 16 assists total, with 25 player points total. EDM has 32 assists, with 50 player points. Oddly symmetrical numbers aren't they? Better yet, McDavid, Draisaitl, Nu-Hop, and Bouchard have 22 assists between them, with most of the rest of the team clocking in with 1 or 2. Hyman isn't a hero so much as he is a lucky byproduct of his teammates scorching the LA defense. The Kings are one of my teams, and I came into this post-season with eyes wide open. This isn't a surprise. But this isn't just about LA fizzling out. This about the Oilers doing something that no other team – East or West – is even coming close to. (Just eyeballing it, Colorado looks next, with Boston and NYR way back of them.) So unless Skinner turns into Swiss chesse at some point, and EDM's defense stays even par with everybody else, this Oiler team looks like a juggernaut to be suffered if these numbers are correct…(Numbers from Hockey-Reference, 04/29/2024.)
