Quelle raison Tampa aurait-il pour NE PAS démissionner de Stamkos ?

Le gars est un leader et toujours un grand joueur en saison régulière et en séries éliminatoires. Si c’est une question d’argent, quelle équipe pourrait le recruter ?

Are you saying resign or re-sign?

  2. wathappen

Tampa is in a tough cap situation wirh Hagel’s extension set to kick in this year. I haven’t done the numbers but I think someone will be leaving this organization this summer.

  3. whack-a-mole

They may not be able to afford to sign him.

  4. Warm-Ad64

He may want to big of a contract at an older age and therefore restrict Tampa’s ability to add depth.

Tampa has lost majority of the depth they had on all their lines in the amazing run they had both in the last 4 years and before that even.

It’s a mix of both sides for fans but I would say that’s the argument for letting him go.

    A stone cold Beast. 🙏🙏

I hope he either stays or goes to Utah with that young team. Such a skilled player, I’d hate to see him leave the Lightning this late into his career.

  7. Oilmoneyy

Join the oilers, we’re taking in all the old guys now.

  8. Brookie069

Unless he takes a discount it could be tricky for Tampa to sign him, but it’s more likely in Florida that happens as well with the taxes.

I could see him on the Senators though for some reason.

Vegas will convince 5 players they have season ending injuries, sign stamkos and cure the 5 injured players for game one of the playoffs.

Tough cap spot, they’d rather leave cap room open to sign hagel and to bolster defense. If Stamkos wants to retire in Tampa i could see him taking a team friendly deal. Dude has already gotten his bag and won a bunch of shiny things, so there’s not much more to chase.

  11. i_Like_airplanes__

Yzerman could pick him up and I wouldn’t be too upset about it

  12. If they can’t find a way to fit him under their cap when he’s still scoring 40 goals and a ppg, and they move on from their captain….to me that means they’re accepting the window is closed and they have to retool….but even then I would be surprised if they can’t find something that works for them both…Stamkos has never been paid super high salary, but he’s made decent money in a tax free state, so we have no idea what he’s thinking about himself….maybe he’s in Utah next year

Is that Kelly McCrimmon I hear calling?

In order to keep him at the current rate, they need to shed at $5-7m in salary to get under the cap. It’s doable, but that’s a big task.

Even if they let all their other UFAs go, and sign Stamkos, they’re still over the cap. It would require Stamkos taking a significant discount and possibly trading away two players whose salaries combine for almost $7m to allow for signing someone to league minimum and sign a rookie deal if they’ve got someone who can step up.

I don’t see much wiggle room here, between Hedman, Kucherov, and Point, they’ve got a ton of money tied up and have the bulk of the lineup in the $1.5-3.5m range. They’ve also got to think about signing Dumba, who is currently at $3.9m, but us certainly going to get more on the open market.

Right off the bat, if you sign Stamkos, Dumba is gone, you’re still over the cap, and the only way out is to move multiple players. The new problem is trying to replace Dumba in D for less than $4m/year, and filling whatever roles you just got rid of for league minimum… and still be over the cap unless Stamkos takes a pay cut.

I don’t see it happening. I see Tampa moving on, Stamkos signing a 1 or 2 year with a possible playoff team with cap space due to a young roster, or maybe a 3-year deal to just a total basement team like Chicago, Anahiem, or San Jose as an investment in getting a good team culture around some young players. He can play left wing, so he could be a solution to getting a linemate who can actually think on the same level as Bedard.

  15. nsfwITGUY19

Money. I’m sure if he’s okay with taking a 50% pay cut they’ll sign him in a heartbeat. But he’s not really worth the asking price any more. He’s still an amazing player but he’s not the dominant force he used to be. But he’s still paid at that level. Honestly he should retire. Or join a young team post rebuild to be a mentor

  16. Full_Examination_920

    Hurrrr dur retirement jokes.

    But seriously, it’s re-sign. Please.

  17. nogozone6969

Have to find a way to sign the Captain 👨‍✈️

  18. Complex-Tangerine628

Only reason is they think their window has closed and move on from EVERY aging player. Other than that I think he stays and finishes his career a bolt.

  19. *Re-sign.

They don’t want to resign him, that means to cut him.

  20. manneukko

This man is going to be Utah’s first new signing

  21. It’s actually more the inverse given he’s exactly at the age where steep dropoffs happen

  22. JiffTheJester

I really don’t see him going anywhere. But if he does, hopefully Steve likes Steve

  23. sanguinius4life

He’s expensive as fuck for an older player. Period. If Tampa thinks they can get a younger player for less they’ll do it

  24. jedi4canes1

To quote James .A. Janisse, « BUISSNESS!! »

  25. Mahonneyy123

Yeah it doesn’t make much sense they have cap room

  26. Allatura19

None. There is no reason not to pay this man and have him finish his career here. I’m hoping JBB is just waiting to see what the cap will be before he’s offered. Stamkos loves Tampa and it’s home for him. He’s one of if not THE best captain in the league and can still score 40.

  27. Fit-Meal4943

He’s 34, which is about 55 in hockey years. He’s at an age where one injury can turn a 40 goal scoring, 25 min/game top liner into an expensive 6 goal 4th liner playing 12/game.

The Lightning have been eliminated in the 1st round 2 years in a row, so management might look at everything, including the cap, and decide to invest in the future.

  28. pumpkinseeds18

We will take him Detroit, as usual!

  29. MarcosR77

Money 💰 the thing is if I was Stamkos I wouldn’t re-sign this is the second time they’ve treated him like this

  30. Flux_resistor

Tampa might want to rebuild with the cap shit show

  31. mochajon

Resign: to voluntarily quit a job

Re-sign: to extend your time at a current job

Very important distinction that gets overlooked far too often.

  32. cyclingnutla

Hey Tampa, We’ll give you PLD for Stamkos.

  33. CarlosAVP

The biggest reason would be signing better defensemen and getting a future goalie who could replace Vasy. Vasy will be 30 in July, had back surgery and a few knee injuries. Tampa has to admit that Vasy is not the goalie he used to be.

  34. Rooftop_Astronaut

Hello Steve my name is the NYR can I interest you in a one year contract

  35. Hungry_Definition450

Killorn took max dollars to live in Southern California.

After winning two cups and achieving everything Stamkos has, I wouldn’t be surprised if he takes max dollars somewhere too. Seattle or Utah could be interesting options.

  36. Zamboni2022

Why would a team entering its twilight want to commit big money to an aging player? Yes there’s loyalty, but at this point it actually makes more sense to let Stammer chase another cup on a real contender somewhere else instead of locking him up as the continue to fade further from contender status.

I also won’t be surprised if the sign him because he’s a club legend tho lol

  37. HockeyTownHooligan

Thank god! Dude has been a red wings killer over the years. Anything to make the Lightning worse, I am here for it.

  38. United-War4561

How is $7 million a team friendly deal on a cap tight team? Dude should take half that if he wants to stay.

  39. Auta-Magetta

Marner for Stammer 1 for 1 on the condition they both sign with the new org.

  40. VetCAN101

Come to Denver Steven, Crosby as well
