What a pair of collapses by the Isles. St. Patrick is gonna be bag skating that team all summer.
Props to Patrick Roy for the work in Islanders organisation.
Go Canes! Let’s keep it up
I don’t know how to feel about Carolina they were good but not felt great but also they match well against NYR
Notable statistic: the Canes are the first team in 25 seasons to win 6 straight 1st-round playoff matchups. The last team to do so was the 1995-2000 Red Wings. Carolina, despite a lot of people's skepticism due to those two ECF sweeps, are generally a model for consistency in the postseason.
I feel the need to apologize to Islanders fans. I tuned in to only two third periods of this series, and within 5 seconds they rapidly gave up two goals. Good luck next season, I'll try not to curse you 🫡
Such a Herculean effort by the isles. A shame it ended from bad luck. Series really could’ve went either way. I don’t think the isles are really that far from beating canes. A few adjustments in the offseason and a full training camp with Roy could do it
Islanders in 10
Islanders fan here. There's a good chunk of the fan base that would love to see this team/core blown up and start fresh, but this series proves to anyone who actually watched it that this team still has some fight left in it. the older vets and players (Martin, Clutterbuck, Bortuzzo) will be sent to pasture and cap space can be freed up by moving on from certain players who aren't developing. the prospect situation is obviously pretty poor, so they'll have to look to the trade or free agent market to fill the gaps. Would not be surprised if we chose to move on from other players whose deals are expiring next year like palmieri, but those calling for pageau or lee to be moved out are delusional. Lee had a shaky start to this season but he was our best player this series and the line with him, pageau and engvall kept us in this series. Mike Reilly should absolutely be brought back and can pair well with scott mayfield when he returns from injury next year and will fill out our defensive core rather well. and i'm sure Sorokin will return to form next year; Varlamov had a great end to the year but he took a team friendly deal to stay on long island and understands that his role is to backup/mentor Ilya. having Roy as a coach certainly doesnt hurt in that regard, and i do think he is the guy to carry us forward
So does Lou stay or go? His desperation hire in Roy got them into the playoffs but I don’t see the contender they were under Trotz.
Isles: We went to the playoffs and all we got were these lousy shirts.
You're not meant to fish in a hurricane…
Not much of a surprise that 2 of the first 4 teams to go out, and so quickly at that, are the two bottom seeds out of the Metro
The way the canes played throughout this series doesnt have me too hopefull that they will be able to take down the rags. They need to completely hit the reset button during this off time, because that was NOT hurricanes hockey at any point in that series other than the second half of game 2.
1) Called it, Canes in 5. Woo!!! For the next series…Canes in 6, though my gut is telling me I should maybe say 7. But officially saying 6.
2) Are those Varlamov numbers right? I get one was an ENG, but if he was 33 for 37 then that's 4+1 for 5 GA. Is there another reason a goal scored might not count in the tally?
Good to finish that one off. I think that physical play starts next round. While we won, the Canes didn't look like the Canes and they'll need to get right before the Rangers series.
Better team won. 🧡💛🧡
So Varlamov was the one who got caught in the men's room! Something I've been fearing Andersen would do. (It's okay. He still has time… 🤣…)…No, dammit! I don't hate Andersen! But we need that fear innoculation after watching him and Raanta open the season going behind the barn mulitple misfortunate times…A tip of the cap to Patrick Roy and the New York Islanders! They've been peddling all uphill since the All Star break, and it kinda showed. It was a bit of a snakebit series for them, but they have nothing to feel ashamed of. The Devils were supposed to be here. Not the Isles…On to MSG…I've got a headache already…
Hope my canes can get it done but they have started looking sloppy. I guess it's about that time. Biggest knock has always been their lack of physicality, soft checks, out muscled, pushed around in front of net.
Potential Knicks Game 7 Saturday, so maybe Sunday for Game 1
Nice work Caniacs, but you do know who NY is bringing with them right?
Felt like the islanders just have something that keeps the canes on their toes. Thankfully Seth Jarvis stepped up big this series and leads the team into round 2.
Awesome. We beat New York in the first round. Now on to….
New York 😂
If you want game one to be Saturday you better hope the Knicks win tomorrow because if they don’t game 7 is Saturday

The Kuzy Krawl is one of the most suspenseful penalty shots you'll ever sit through
I dont think Canes ahve played full 60mins yet, this game they finally started strong but their 2nd period was suspect, Rags vs Canes should be amazing hockey to watch
NY Islanders not too far away from competing to advance to second round with Cup contender
Rant: Penalty shots like the one in this game should not be allowed in the game. A penalty shot should be mandated in the rules that the shooter should skate in as if being chased on a break away with speed, no slowing down and making the goalie dance all over the crease while picking an open spot to shoot – any teenage hockey player can do that- get that fixed and a rule on the books. Rant over.
Service Now NHL tonight picks should;d be interesting for next series.
First things first, Lou needs to be fired and it needs to have happened 3 years ago.
I'd say the isles play a style of hockey that carolina is not so good against. Thay said, the scoring has been there at the moment and they still found rhe chances with a bunch of pressure.
The rangers managed to keep the smallest of margins ahead of carolina in the regular season. This should be an absolute battle, but I think the islanders prepared carolina more for the next round than the capitals dis for new York.
I also thought… Nnnooo
They shouldn’t start round 2 while round 1 is going on. Why are teams that finish series early be punished?
A lot of work to do on the Island…let's hope ownership will take the time away from property development to hire a team that can build a winning hockey team. The fans deserve that much.
Rangers in 6
I don’t understand how two conference finals in five years is bad. I didn’t feel any of the former teams were really cup contenders. I don’t buy they were underachievers. The team was short on scoring. They had difficult injuries. They played to the level they were at.
Glad this series is over. The Canes lost Pesce in this series. The Canes need to stop skill matching. They play great against great teams but not so good against teams they shouldn't have an issue with. The entire series should have looked like the first period in last nights game. (Game 5) TDA needs to be on a short leash as he lets the Ranger fans live rent free in his head.
If you are a Canes fan for most of the season and then turn coat when the Rangers are in town DO NOT COME IN PNC!!!!!
I feel like they should let round one play out first before scheduling anything for round 2
