I don’t think Rod is necessarily going to the highest bidder because there are things he cares about more than money. He won a Cup here. He built this team. I think he likes the area.
So while Seattle does seem like a reasonable destination for him should he leave, I don’t think he wants to leave.
That said, Kaiton and Forslund were loved here and didn’t want to leave and were one of the best in their profession and Dundon chased them away, so you can’t rule it out. Hopefully, Dundon wouldn’t be that dumb, but I suppose it’s possible.

It might not be all about money for Rod but you’re naive if you don’t think the Canes will have to throw a huge chunk of change at him.

All these reports coming out are just twisting his words. He’s said he wants to stay here, but he doesn’t sign until his staff gets deals first. So naturally deadbeat reporters jump to « ROD WANTS TO LEAVE! »

I keep seeing the pay thing, I don’t know anyone that says Rod should not get paid fairly for his time, but that’s not his main motivation for coaching. If it was, he’d be in Toronto. And I’m sure there are other teams that also would throw a lot of money at him. But digging in a little deeper it just doesn’t make much sense for him to go anywhere else. In Carolina he has the team structured exactly how he wants it, he’s got a son relatively close by in the AHL and another on the junior team. He’s also placed on the highest pedestal here above anyone else. Even if he decides to no longer coach he’d probably just be given shares from the team to live off the interest and stay as a figurehead.

Rod isn’t leaving just a bunch of click bait and distractions for the team. Although the hurricanes did make the playoffs in 2008-09 and made it to the ECF.
