@Maple Leafs de Toronto

The value is clearing the wasted cap space.

  2. gamerdoc77

I don’t fucking care. Marner is a deadweight at 11M. Who f cares he gets 96 points during regular season when he disappears every playoffs when it matters. Points per game in playoffs? Last 4 years he mostly scored when it didn’t matter. We can get better defence and maybe sign something else.

  3. joerph713

He was living the dream. Not anymore.

The city has turned on him. It would be pretty uncomfortable playing for a team that doesn’t want you (assuming Tre feels the same way we do) with a fan base that dislikes you. NMC just means the leafs get less in return. He will waive it to go to a team that’s a good fit if he knows his future is over with the leafs, even if he can delay it for a little while by being stubborn.

  4. How did he type this while he’s double fisting hot dogs?

  5. Bizarre48

The thing is, why would he want to stay where the entire fanbase hates him? He clearly cares what people think more than he leads on

I see him waiving but he’ll choose exactly where to go

  6. intecknicolour

    cap space is an asset.

1 mitch marner could easily be 1 domi, 1 bert and 1 more guy.

  7. SmashinHearts

PLD Got a haul and he was a fucking bum. the only way trades might not get full value is shit like this, teams/agents speaking through insiders

  8. Hurrdurrr73

Marner is going to waive his NMC. It’d be an insanely stupid move to decline to give a list of teams going into a contract year where your team has no intention of re-signing you.

I think you’re discounting how impactful a slightly underperforming regular season could be if they chose to put him on pp#2, off Matthews wing and another disaster post season would be to his UFA contract.

85 points and another 3 points in 7 games and he’s now a 9m x 7 player. That’s a 25 million dollar haircut from 11×8. If he cares about the money like we all seem to think he does, then the move for him is to get out of this city and to a place where he can be « the guy » and lead them to the post season. A place like Seattle, Utah, LA, etc where they need that elite scoring to make an impact.

    The rest, will stay.

  9. summer_friends

Make it hard for him. Boo him out of town the way we booed Bryan McCabe out of town back in the day.

  10. TheBombersFlow

Y’all living a fantasy if you think Marner won’t be a leaf next year. No move clause, contract size and who is going to deal for a player who hasn’t performed in the playoffs in 10 years. Leafs will have to give him away and eat alotta salary

  11. Secondusx

IMO it’s Tavares that the team needs to desperately find something to do with. I could be very wrong, but giving him the C was the wrong move.

  12. LairdOftheNorth

Got to hope that someone like marner wants a change of scenery as well.

  13. marumaruko

Not a nice move, but do you think the team could help a move if they commend Willy’s efforts and give him the A while stripping it off of Marner? Then, offer no extension (or a cheap one) and I think the player would ask for a move.

  14. IandouglasB

So what? Marner gets nervous in the playoffs? He gets them to the playoffs, Mathews doesn’t have 69 goals without him and would’ve had more than 70 if Marner didn’t get hurt, a high ankle sprain that also took out our top goalie prospect to win that game. He wasn’t himself but he wilts a bit in the playoffs and because he isn’t PERFECT, he’s useless and should go? Other guys wilted too, so how come we aren’t saying MANAGEMENT? Keefe has had long enough and can’t coach this bunch to a cup? Come on…LEADERSHIP needs to go

  15. Zealousideal-Swing39

I heard a rumour if Keefe stays bertuzzi and possibly domi have no interest in signing.

    Bertuzzi wants term.

Apparently Keefe used domi n Bert as his whipping boys first half of the year until he was told to fuck off.

So keefe goes or those two likely walk.

  16. torontoker13

I can’t stand the guy. The smug we don’t care about anyone outside this rooms opinion has always come across as entitled and disrespectful imho. I don’t think people should smack him or Paul out in public but if I heard it I would t be shocked.
No move clause means jack ship these days
Sure he can submit a list and pick where he goes but either way he’s gotta go

  17. TheGapInTysonsTeeth

Wanna bet? He’s fuckin gone bro. I’ll bet you anything you want.

Will we get good value? Probably not. Probably 60-80 cents on the dollar value-wise. But the cap can be used to do other things.

Will our in-season PK and point totals go down a bit? Yeah probably. But if you replace his cap hit with gamers who show up in those key moments, it’ll be a win regardless

  18. Spare-Notice-224

You think the leafs are still his favorite team after these past two/three playoffs? LMFAO.

  19. Cal_Takes_Els

I said it in the gdt after the game, don’t be surprised to see treliving run this roster back with a new coaching staff, and hopefully president.

  20. Golden_Hour1

I don’t care. We need the cap space more than anything

  21. whalepopcorn

We need goaltending. I’m not a Sammy hater but he just isn’t a playoff goalie. He lets in goals that should not be going in. I know it’s hard to find a top goalie but it has to be said. Without it, it doesn’t matter how many great players we got.

  22. prob_wont_reply_2u

Depends how much he wants an 8 year contract. You can’t learn heart, if you want to win in the playoffs, you need to get hurt, that’s just the way it is.

If he wants 8 years, tell him to waive his NMC clause, because you won’t give him 8, and any other team can only give him 7.

  23. Current-Own

Thanks Pierre. You just summed up what I’ve been saying for the last little while. I think true fans know the story. Or at least I hope they do.

  24. valhalla2611

A better coach would do wonders. I know people would hate to hire him, especially with MLG having it’s own scandal but a guy like Quenville would be helpful.

  25. Fastlane19

I’m good with a bag of pucks and skittles for Marner

  26. Puzzleheaded-Ask9884

It works both ways, there are many ways for teams to make players uncomfortable so they move, it’s as simple as dropping him down a line or two, cutting his ice time, etc. He won’t want to stay at this point anyway, he’s the face of what’s wrong with the Leafs and knows he’s not going to be happy. He knows he needs to go to a team where he can produce good regular seasons and never be expected to break a nail in the playoffs.

  27. MrDrunkvader

Just bench him every game until he waves the NMC out of embarrassment.

  28. DessertRose17

Fuck the return. I’ll take the 10.9M cap space. And Captain stone face and hands can walk after next year. Cause no one in their right mind is trading for that boat anchor contract without serious assets attached.

  29. StingyJack21

Ok hear me out and this may be crazy but perhaps we get Jonathan Huberdeau (salary partially retained) plus a D man like Weager?
Huberdeau is a system player and we saw what can happen in a fast past system with lots of speed.
