Zary was a centre in the AHL and WHL and played well there last year, would it really be that much better if he was drafted 5th? Same with if Sharangovich was drafted 5th? Elias Lindholm was top 5 and U30 (for only this season), but it’s not like that was some magic sauce that meant we should have signed that extension.
Cutter Gauthier is also a winger. And Shane Wright honestly looked weak against the Wranglers.

Doesn’t matter when you draft, you have to draft well if you want to be successful. Every year there are franchise altering players drafted well outside of the top 10, and finding these players is the difference between a successful and a failed rebuild.
