Im already seeing a lot of fans reacting emotionally to EP40’s play, and throwing out things like “prima donna”, “POS” and other lame nonsense.
He needs to play better. At the very least this shows an acknowledgement from Petey that he needs to be a difference maker.
And we can all appreciate the accountability this team has that wasn’t there in the past. Even JT last night accepted blame for the loss.
1milliondays
Let’s get it Petey. Play hard, move your feet, grip it & rip it. You can do it and the team needs you.
SpinCity07
You can’t be a difference maker falling on all fours all the time. Would the real Elias Petterson please stand up.
metrichustle
A difference maker will score the GWG in Game 5.
Let’s go!
Adam_Smith75
The heart say yes but the legs say no. It’s internal battle within Pettersson.
ooMEAToo
Skate hard, shot hard try hard. Where did his skill go. Someone call his mom he needs a good stern talking too.
theDanu
It’s a BO3, all he needs to do is have 2 amazing games and nobody will give a shit about anything else that’s happened
Dude is getting prime matchups against the Oiler’s bottom 6, just needs to breakthrough. Maybe try playing him with someone not named Mikheyev lol
420weedscopes
He was really important on the tying goal, he had a clean faceoff win that lead to it but otherwise his game wasn’t great.
Ironborn7
Please wake up Petey, be the alien I know you can be
Silent-trance
Don’t love this honestly. I can look past the lack of passion/emotion as a cultural thing, Swedes are more reserved. But saying things like “that’s a good question” when asked why he’s struggling or “no” to if he has any answers isn’t a good look. He sounds like he’s given up mentally and makes it sound like he isn’t even trying to get out of this slump. Kinda getting a “I suck because my linemates suck” vibe from this.
mrmcbluffy
I’ve been super tough on Petey but he’s clearly sick! He still sounds like he’s got a nasty cold/flu. He sat out practice like over a week ago so it’s clearly been ongoing for a while. I don’t even go to my desk job when I’m sick, let alone play in a super intense game on the biggest stage in Canada.
Until he sounds recovered, I’m laying off all criticism 100%.
ZackyGood
I feel like Petey needs to get in a screaming match with either Tocchet, Miller or Hughes while on the bench. I want to see Peteys blood pressure spike. I feel like he needs to get angry. Really angry.
Nuck_7
He is definitely sick
nodarknesswillendure
He does not sound like himself
Nomad_0024
He looks defeated.
pennepasta14
Would it be a good investment to get a sports psychologist for him
Competitive_Camp_473
I double dog dare you petey!!!
chente08
I know he is going through something but man you are in the second round of the playoffs, show some motivation, looks like he is over it
outofnowhere1010
First most were down on Brock for his poor play . Miller was a cancer . Lindy trade was a bust . We are hard on our guys when it’s not going well . He’s obviously frustrated and wants to do better yet his linemates are in and out of the lineup . He’s playing with guys that have struggled to get in the scoresheet a better part of the season . Mik , Lafferty , Hogs has gone cold too.
g0kartmozart
What a rough presser, and really not helped by the fact he’s obviously sick.
AccomplishedAd4995
jesus christ that’s depressing
SuddenlyChineseFood
You know what Petey? Go get it.
Go crosscheck someone in the face. Activate your inner playoffs beast.
gabu87
I want to see the former hardest slot shot in the league rip at the Oiler’s sub goalie.
We can’t carry the puck up the slot that well might as well slam one in there and take advantage of our bigger players in the ensuing scramble.
Illustrious-Choice-4
Outch this interview is quite abysmal.
kerosenehat63
This has to be one of the most uncomfortable, awkward interviews I have ever seen. I almost feel sorry for him. He just looks so sad and depressed.
However, he wanted the big contract and got it, so he needs to find a way to get through this and help the team by being the difference-maker. He should be the best player out there. He is our « McDavid » or « Driasitl ». He is supposedly our star player, yet he looks like he has just mentally checked out.
When I see him play, I just get frustrated when something doesn’t go his way and he kind of pauses and hangs his head (or lifts his head up to the sky) … instead of moving his feet and continuing to chase the puck or get open for a pass. That’s not a good look. It shows weakness to the other team. He’s just cracking under the playoff pressure. I wish now that the Canucks had waited to re-sign him after the season was over. I think the Canucks have overpaid. I hope I’m wrong and he snaps out of this … but we are well into the 2nd round and nothing has changed.
Fourmanaseven7
Jesus Christ he sounds congested.
AdNo1218
He’s going to come out firing on Thursday
No_Objective_2584
Petey, you’ve got it in you to be the X factor. Own that shit. Put it all behind you, grip it and rip it. You have the entire city with you.
Agreeable-While1218
Years ago I remember Naslund also struggled mightily in the playoffs. Sometime it takes some years of playoffs experience before a player can adapt to the pace and conditions of playoff hockey. Naslund eventually got better in playoffs so lets be patient with EP. He may get there yet though likely not this year as you simply cannot turn it on just like switch.
gawesome604
Man that was rough to watch. Petey looks completely defeated and miserable. It looks like the answers are eating him up from the inside and feel like a psychological mind game.

God this is hard to watch, I know he’s usually like this in interviews but he sounds so deeply depressed and out of it. I don’t know if it’s the system or he’s just lost his confidence but this feels like more than a slump.

If the Canucks don’t have a sports psychologist on the team yet, now would be a good time to get one!! Last year Brock was struggling with a mental block and now it’s Petey. Man looks depressed.
Zestyclose-Way-7768
* Starts off by desperately avoiding eye contact with *anyone…*
* Sombre tone of voice, almost to the point of mumbling.
* Weak attempt to muster a nervous grin when he finally notices that people are looking at him.
* Very neutral and brief responses to media questions which demonstrate apathy moreso than frustration or anger.
* Literally chokes up the moment he says the word « adversity. »
For love of all that is holy, someone get this poor kid some help. I really hope this demeanor isn’t because of post-concussion syndromes because these are all textbook signs of clinical depression and anxiety.
AllDay1980
This is a player who is getting sick of the same old questions. The media is beating a dead horse with these questions. Petey knows he is struggling and so does the coaching staff. Anyone of us would have the same attitude or close to it. I doubt he is checked out but I am sure the frustration level is reaching a breaking point. Big game for the boys tomorrow..Big game.
Minimum_Location9742
He looks and sounds like he has lost all his confidence. I feel sorry for him. Hopefully he gets a lucky break next game and it helps spark a point streak.
meekah12
Petey needs to look at himself in the mirror and just confirm to himself that he’s the man, just fake it till he makes it. He’s 25 and he still has a lot to learn at this stage in his career, but from the outside looking in, he looks like he lost the curiosity to just learn from each game, each shift.
The critique in his head and the critiques in the fan base are so loud that it ‘s hard for him to just embrace the grind. He needs to find that compete level again, because what’s worse than not producing or making mistakes is not competing. He should be hounding the puck and skate a little harder and run rings around Foegle and Perry. Petey determines the teams ceiling, and f*ck all that noise. I believe in him, he just needs to believe in himself again.
julesieee
He sounds so different. Doesn’t sound like him. 💀
Dizzy-Frame-165
Petey definitely has Covid. I was sick all weekend and decided to test today. Positive. 99% sure I picked it up during Game 1.
csnoff
The non-answer on the injury seems like a total red flag. There can’t be any other reason a player of his skill set is in this slump and I’m sticking to it. Not that it helps.
Sweaty-Salad95
I didn’t buy your jersey for nothing. I believe in you, Petey!
Zestyclose-Diver-565
Move Garland up to his line and they will be the difference.
yonksterman
I’m reserving all judgement until I have full story after the playoffs. Alvin/Ruth signed $11.6×8 for this talent and something doesn’t look right.
Until then, praying that he finds his A game.
Zestyclose-Diver-565
We all feel bad for him, but come on. This isn’t just a playoff slump. He hasn’t played well since before the All-Star break. The excuse for his lack of drive then was “he’s so stressed about his contract. He’ll bounce back when the deal is struck.” Still waiting. . .
