Tavares has 2 playoff series wins in 15 seasons. He has 23 goals and 23 assists in 62 playoff games, which translates into a 60 point season over an 82 game season. For a first overall pick and $11 million per year, he certainly has not been a difference maker in the playoffs. I'm sure he won't waive his no trade clause anyway, but I don't know how much interest teams would have in him given his salary and age. Marner is the Leaf's best shot at getting back a decent return.
They don’t waive leafs run it back and lose in the first round, Mitch signs elsewhere in free agency next summer and Tavares signs for like 5.5×3
Do a Marner swap with Ehlers, sign him to a fair contract and take their 1st as well.

Moving JT and Mitch likely wouldn’t help the Leafs in the regular season – but likely would win the Leafs another first round series next year. They both are difference makers in the playoffs – but for the wrong/negative reasons. 😀

They can't be traded because they are useless.
The trades need to be made before the season starts, if Marner refuses he will have a hard time with the fans. Its in his best interest to give out his list.
Marner will be traded, Tavares will stay and the leafs will sign or trade for one of Montour, Tanev or Pesce

Marner reminds me of a 12 year old peewee player. Talented but physically very weak.
Then there up shits creek because guarantee both players will walk when they become free agents and get nothing in return many times this has happened with leaf players
Leafs will have to pay to move Tavares’ contract. There will be nothing of value coming back to absorb that $ amount
It all starts behind-the-bench, w/the coach & the special teams coaches, if Marner and JT stay one more year.
