It’s funny to see the Habs fans pathetically pouncing all over this quote, desperate for any attempt to justify passing on Michkov.
Briere has a shit-eating grin on for most of this clip. I think he knows that he’s just giving the ultra-conservative answer.

Anyone got English subtitles for that video?

Totally unrelated and my French is a little rusty but this is the first time I’ve actually listened to “Quebecois” speakers talking and their accent/dialect is so interesting. It’s like hearing someone from the Deep South or like Liverpool in English lol
Canucks fan here. You guys are my east coast team and this video came up on my feed. I can speak French and can translate what he said during my lunch break later but I wouldn’t be worried about what he said here at all, basically just “exciting to have a prospect like that in our pool and hopefully play for us one day, we can’t really talk to him because he belongs to St Petersburg, he was excited to be a flyer which was nice after what happened with Cutter Gauthier” lol. He was very loose and jokey and I don’t think Briere would be giggling at the prospect of Michkov potentially not wanting to play for you guys. I’ll come back later to properly translate

Meanwhile Michkov going out of his way to train in Flyers apparel.

Technically true. Which is why its crazy to see so many people already *assuming* he will be an elite franchise player for us. Even assuming he came over, hes not a lock to be an elite NHL player.
I remember reading one person saying hes expecting him to be the best winger in NHL and would be disappointed otherwise. Expecting a Hart trophy Hall of Fame level guy is just asking to be disappointed.
Lets see him come over and have success first before we lock him in as our elite franchise savior.

Being Québécois, here’s my loose translation for those interested :
Interviewer (Maxim Lapierre ?) : « You have a nice project coming eventually, Michkov, we talked about it a lot, he plays far away, everyone knows him since we talk about him so much. What’s your vision and how is it going with this matter ? »
DB : « We watch him play, like everybody else. We watch the highlights and his games. It’s very exciting, knowing we have a prospect of this caliber in our pool, but we don’t know if we’ll ever see him. We hope, like everybody, that he will come over eventually. He came to see us before the draft, we had the opportunity to talk to him. He’s a kid with a nice energy, he was happy and smiling. He was walking around in Philadelphia and he kept saying that he wants to be a flyers, that he wants to come to Philadelphia. Him too, it’s scary to hear after Cutter Gauthier. We loved his energy, we drafted him and talked with him a bit in Nashville, but since then there has been no contact, we can’t really talk to him since he belongs to St-Petersburg. »

He’s not a 100% lock and Briere has to operate on the principal that he’s not coming. He has a team to put on the ice next season and if he wants to keep fans coming, there has to be incremental progress. He’s hedging to make sure he sets expectations. It would be irresponsible of him to say things that may come back to haunt him. He seems positively optimistic and that’s the best I could hope for.
I see nothing wrong with this answer in the slightest, nor does it at all worry me about the future. Michkov is likely going to be here at some point. But as the saying goes: Don’t count your chickens before they hatch.

Didn’t SKA state they could do a buyout if Michkov wanted to go to Flyers ahead of schedule?
ghos1fac3
French Canadian here, way he says it really is more of a joking tone.
He then goes on to talking about how happy and smiley Michkov was the whole time he was in Philly pre draft
