Like Treliving being named GM last year, we all saw this coming

I’m so excited for Berube, just the coach this team needs.

  3. Samurai1221

Was not my first choice but now he is the greatest coach of all time go leafs go !!!

  4. vec-u64-new

The fans who predicted it’d be done by this week, take a bow

  5. peanut-arms

Perfect. Lock it in and let’s move to the next step. (Insert American Pie moment)

  6. Gear4Vegito

I think he is the best choice from those who were actually available.

Going to be interesting to see the different coaching approach and style.

Changes can’t stop here though but this is a good first step.

Honestly disappointed that they didn’t at least try to pretend they didn’t have someone in mind when they fired Keefe. If your ass is on the line, at least do some due diligence. He may end up being g the right coach, but you better be damn sure because we can ill afford to waste Matthews prime years.

Can’t wait for him to pop up and say it smells like bitch in here after game 11.

Matthews Conn Smythe 2025. Plan the parade.

  10. ostracize

In over 30 years following this team, I don’t think there’s a single coaching hire that was not universally viewed by the fans as the second coming of Jesus.

  11. Reggae4Triceratops

That’s crazy. Never saw this coming.

  12. Should the parade go down the length of Yonge street or should it also involve lakeshore blvd?

  13. songofsparks

Is one year too early to start rehearsing the parade?

  14. Ok sure whatever lol. I’m not excited about it but I’m not devastated either. Prove to us that you’re the right guy for the job big lad

  15. Arcade23

To be honest it’s hard to get excited, we’ll see how it works out and I’m hoping for the best but after being a fan for over 30 years now this is just another blip in the radar.

  16. RogerPeters

If he can communicate to the core 4 (especially marner) in his direct no bullshit manner, this could be great.

  17. TheLoomingMoon

Woah no way! No one saw this coming.

  18. It’s really unfortunate to see the franchise try to solve problems by bringing in reactionary mindsets, truculence the first

Truculence dropped the team 10 points in the standings, had a bad impact on the recent series

This is just going backwards. Ultimately. On all levels.

Echoes of: « fascism is capitalism in decline » also ✖

The real problem is the stars have a very fraught anxiety performance complex and the rest of the roster is not bubbling up so far, no Wyatt Johnston type situation yet despite it being badly needed

The team needs a new approach for sure

But it needs an ambitious yet poised approach, not some old school clowns trying to drag hockey back to 2004

  19. legendary_sponge

    I love it.

    Think of it this way:
    Berube = B R B which is a social media term from the early days of M S N

    BRB + MSN = SRBMNB

    The Serbian Men’s basketball team!!!!
They’re going to sign Nikola Jokic!!!!

  20. Jaymesned

I have no opinion one way or another until I see the results.  Congrats to Mr Berube for landing one of the most stressful jobs in sports.

  21. rhineauto

Finally, some much needed testosterone, pugnacity, belligerence, and our favorite Brian Burke word: truculence. Berube will be a major kick in the ass for majority of players who need it, and the checking will be emphasized more than ever.
