Bertuzzi would be fine except, for all his grittiness, he hasn't helped anyone actually win. Last two years he's been part of some major playoff clunkers.
I was informed 7:12pm EST 2 nights ago that Keefe agreed verbally and will be the next coach. For me as an amateur scout who also tracks matured NHL teams too I like the tactics and attitude he brings. His GM in Kyle Dubas gave him some undersized low determined whiny players.
Not happy but not mad, hes a younger guy and maybe he'll have some better luck with us as we don't seem to have the whatever curse the leafs have

Leafs fan. Keefe is a great signing. Great coach. Bad goaltending. Brutal division. Not his fault on results. Not enough depth talent.

With you- Berube would have been nice, but I’m thinking maybe too tough for these kids.. I would love any kinda tough injected into the staff.
Also can’t really blame a coach for the Leafs failures, it’s the Leafs (still early in this video, you may end up saying this)
I feel the same way you do. I’m on the fence. I’ll be happy to make the playoffs but I’m not a fan of how he was talking about his team when their season ended.

I'm completely fine with the Keefe hire, my only hangup is the clip of his game 7 pregame speech. That being said as a coach you need to coach to the players you have and as soft as the Leafs core is, he probably felt he had to try and coddle them. Hopefully it's a mistake he's learned from. Plus it's gonna be hilarious to get to troll Leafs fans when in his first year with us Keefe more than doubles (hopefully quadruples) his playoff series wins.
As for Berube he lives in Philly and spent over 20 years in the Flyers organization as both player and coach, personally I don't have any interest hiring a Jihadist to pilot our team. Easy pass on picking up a double agent.
Devils need a goalie a physical defenseman and a physical forward who can score 18m in cap space 14m if say 4m max for mercer
I'm in the same boat as you… we'll see. I'm so glad it's not Woodcroft that would have been a bad move. I guess we'll find out exactly how much of how bad the Leafs have been post-season, was down to the players. I reckon he'll get us in the play-offs, if we stay healthy. LGD 😈🏒

One thing's for sure… Fitz can no longer punt seasons. He blew it last season by not using Dougie's LTIR money to acquire a player and ignored the goalie situation until they were out of the playoffs. That absolutely cannot happen again under any circumstances. If Keefe wants a player, Fitz has to get off his ass and make it happen.

Why does the nhl hire the same people over and over like you were just fired because you stink and can’t do crap in playoffs but hey do you want a job.
:50 Berube was not coming to Jersey… he wanted Toronto. Once the Leafs moved in from Keefe it was going to happen. If you really look around it was Keefe, Woodcroft and McClellan. None of those guys have a cup.

100 percent right not Keefe`s fault the style of play in the playoffs the goaltending has always been an issue and too many soft players. hurt the Leaf`s again.
Your only as good as the players you have and when you pay 4 guys over half the cap space that will kill ya too. then you have to fill in holes with 3rd of 4th line players at best.
One of the pluses hiring Keefe is his having coached Bertuzzi & Domi. Leafs want to resign both but if they don’t…
As a Leafs fan, I am happy for Sheldon. He was a good coach who has much to learn with a good young team

I wouldn't hold his playoff stats against him. After all, he was trying to get together the joke that is the Toronto Maple Leafs. It would be a daunting task for anyone.
Jokes aside, if he can do away with the country club atmosphere and hold everyone equally accountable, then a lot of it really falls on what Fitz does with our pieces over the summer.

I'm very happy with this hire. Everyone wants cup winners like Berube or Sullivan to coach the team, but that doesn't guarantee anything. Do you how many coaches since the 1950s have won a cup with more than 1 team? 1 – Scotty Bowman…that's it. Keefe is young, he had a lot regular season success and got TOR to the playoffs despite bad goaltending, bad depth and a blueline worse than NJ's. I'm confident he'll do a good job.
I like the hiring. Dont think Berube was ever a possibility after the Toronto job came open and i didnt really see another better option. Would like Guy Boucher as an assistant (keep him away from the pp though).
