  1. It took the best game Skinner has played, all of the top guys from edmonton scoring, and five pks to barely beat the stars in 2ot. I am not worried.

  2. On the bright side, you've got something to be happy about no matter who wins. Obviously you'd prefer Dallas, but you've got a silver lining to an oiler win

  3. When Dallas was unable to score on the 4 minute
Power play, early in overtime, I just had a feeling. Edmonton was eventually going to win it at some point.

  4. Every team in the NHL right now wondering if they're allowed to just forfeit the power play against the Oilers and get straight back to 5-on-5. Because what's the point anyway?

  5. If the Oilers get a cup, the NHL's love for McDavid will become so great that we'll forget there are other players in the league.

  6. If the refs did not bend over backwards for Dallas (I do think most of the Oilers penalties were legit including the 4min one in OT, but Dallas should have been penalized way more than the one time with the powerplay split between periods), if Oettinger didn't play the game of their life, Kulak didn't have the biggest brain fart in the world, and the Oilers blowing every open net they saw, this could have easily been a blowout.

You know what the difference was? The Oilers defense. They have a top 5 defense in the league and the best defensive pairing in the NHL. You know who leads +/- in the playoffs? Bouchard by a lot. Who was the only pairing with top 5 stats in every defensive 5v5 advanced stat of any pairing playing 500+ minutes during the regular season? Ekholm and Bouchard. And they aren't propped up with high shooting percentage, high goalie save percentage, or high PDO. Kulak and Desharnais have been a great second pairing too (not epic, but good for a second pairing). Nurse and Ceci, especially Nurse, are the only weaknesses on the back end. And Nurse played mostly well last night except for that second goal against. The Oilers may not have depth scoring, but they have depth defensive forwards. That's why their PK is so suffocating for every team.

But the Oilers' reputation has been so bad for so long and no one watches the Oilers so no journalist outside of Edmonton has talked about anything else. They have narratives about the Oilers that never change and don't understand why Edmonton is a legitimate cup contender since Knoblach and Coffey took over coaching duties. They have been the winningest team in 2024 and since the coaching change midway in November.

  7. It’s funny haha, I know THG is trying so hard to be objective but you can hear the snappy sarcasm in his voice when he talks about the oilers 😂 I feel bad, it’ll be hard for you to cheer for Edmonton if they beat both your western teams 😅

  8. Stankoven (#11) went behind the net where two teammates already were trying to box in the puck carrier, and McDavid said oh cool I’ll just glide to the slot and hope for a pass.

Do the math: 3 vs. 1 in a 5-on-5 situation means someone will be open. And notice Stankoven’s head was immobile, not once did he check his rear view mirror. A rookie mistake, although I’ve seen a lot of puck-watching this year by vets as well leading to easy scoring chances.

  9. Once my team is out I stop watching now. I never used to do that but I do that now. Your channel is my resource for knowing what happened after my team gets eliminated. Best unbiased hockey content that exists if you ask me.

  10. Oilers in 6, PK is elite 5V5 was great, Stu came to play, you can contain Mcd but they always forget about Drai LETS GO OILERS

  11. Shannon, no matter who plays in the Finals, you’ll still get views from me.

That’s because you are that good.

That’s because you are THE Hockey Guy.

  12. Definitely felt like a game that could've gone either way there, excited to see how the rest of this series plays out.

  13. The double minor penalty is a situation that has to be fixed. Too many times we see players getting 4 minutes for an accidental clip. Originally, the high sticking penalty was doled out in situations where a player genuinely had his stick too high. Now, it happens too often, usually because the game is faster. The NHL went from no head protection to helmets to visors. It's time to start the process of putting full face shields on players, phased in like helmets were phased in.. This will eliminate penalties for accidental clips. High sticking can still be called, but it will be a much clearer call. NFL players wear better head protection and the speed is less. Why are we living in the past? BTW. I think the hockey gods stepped in for McDavid … karma.

  14. Deadmonton Oilers fans, I cannot wait to see them cry
how the f*** can THEHOCKEYGUY say they were the better team last night?
2 posts on a powerplay on like 7 shots in overtime
it woulda brought a single tear to my eye but I realize
these Deadmonton fans don't know what it's like to win
I'm not gonna lie, I was cheering for the Canes in '06 (as a Canadian)
as a former goalie, I seen Cam Ward, and I know s***
my flow sick, but this is about the Dallas Stars
and the Deadmonton Oilers, sure you got far
but you about to hit a brick wall, because Otter large
game 1 the Stars lose, maybe even game 2 too, but game 3 we'll take charge
this our year, in 2 weeks McDavid is gonna try and make par

    1) I'm writing music today
    2) I wrote this in 10 minutes
    3) I'm a lyricist/songwriter/dallas stars fan
    4) I mean no offense to anyone, I'm just playing
    5) love hockey and everyone

  15. Dallas power play is trash. They need to step it up. Edmonton controlled zone entry as well as Dallas did against Colorado. Very close game, very similar teams. Should be a legendary series. Refs werent as in the bag for the Oilers as they were against Vancouver, which was nice. Hope that continues. I think longer games that dont produce scoring usually favors Dallas, but this series may chance that. DeBoer changing lineups midway through the game is interesting.

  16. The Oilers have faced so much adversity this season its made them into a playoff cup contender, they started out awful, then got better with a new coach, then got awesome and made the playoffs, it would’ve been practically impossible for any other team to do that. Oilers in 6 but could be less if they win game two.

  17. Top to bottom, That was a complete game as the Oilers have played. Ottenger played fantastic. It’s a much different matchup than Vancouver

  18. Yep ..I have an Oiler Messier captain’s jersey, from 1990.. she’s a beauty! GO OILERS!

  19. If Dallas couldn't win yesterday with all the biased calls favoring them, there is really no hope for them. That's why prior to the series I said the Stars was overrated, and the "depth" everyone talks about doesn't show up in the stats of the players. +/- is abysmal for the TOP players of Dallas, you can't win for very long like that. Yesterday's 2 goals were just luck and the game should have been 3-0 and no double-OT.

  20. Whoever gets to the finals deserves it and for diehard NHL fans, every season is like a story. You got this far, might as well see how it ends. It sucks how some people check out either when their team gets eliminated or based on “big market/small market” teams

  21. Just so you know, Shannon .. I am a leafs fan but more importantly I’m an NHL fan. I just want to watch really great hockey… and then I wanna watch you analyze great hockey
