@Maple Leafs de Toronto

So in other words, nothings changed lol

  2. Man look at that drop off…. From 10.903 to 2.4

  3. Samurai1221

On the bright side next year we can spend a pretty penny around matthews and nylander !

  4. Thirdnipple79

The solution is simple.  Marner will be goalie when woll gets hurt.   Treliving can thank me later.

  5. UnflushableNug

I think it will work this time, guys.

  6. bootygoon2

Add in Rielly’s $7.5M and that’s 62% (I rounded up) of the cap spent on five players 🔥🔥

  7. Takhar7

Some people were twisting themselves into pretzels defending the core with « THE CAP IS GOING UP SO WE CAN BUILD AROUND THEM! » nonsense, completely ignoring the fact that they actually take up MORE percentage of the cap next year than they do this year.

Just an incredibly mismanaged cap situation from start to finish, and their only likely reprieve will be to let a few of those highly paid players walk for nothing in return.

  8. Whiterhino77

Team built like a collection of trading cards

  9. mikesully374826

Nah no big deal guys when we re-signed Nylander everyone said it would be okay

  10. aNINETIEZkid

paid for the victory lap before getting close to winning anything meaningful

  11. D_Jayestar

Tavares is never making 10+ again in his life

  12. billbelichickssmile

Next year will be a wash if they do that, so up to them if they want to waste another year of matthews’ prime

  13. witwar101

Next year is a write off. Im excited to see what treliving does over the next few seasons though. He adds real mean playoff types. He’s already better at filling out the roster than dubas ever was. I would keep Marner and wait a year for the Tavares contract to end.

  14. TheOneWithThePorn12

Yes this was always the squeeze year even if they didnt suck ass again.

  15. TheGapInTysonsTeeth

Absolutely nothing wrong with that! We’re in the playoffs every year. Built to last baby

  16. jcanada22

This is crazy. This composition won’t win anything in the playoffs. Need to drop at least one of them.

  17. Current-Own

And stupid is what stupid does. Good luck to this loser organization. I can’t believe how many people are all of a sudden kissing Mitch’s ass again. Leafs may not even make the playoffs this upcoming season. And it serves them right.

  18. H8ersAlwaysH8

People talking on here like the solution is simple tho. JUST gotta trade for a Shea Theodore. Just gotta trade for a top 2 defenceman like it’s just signing a piece of paper.

  19. WillSmiff

I’d hire Dubas again just so we can fire him again the same day.
I didn’t like him from the start, but unfortunately this fanbase was too busy fawning over his dorky glasses. So there was no pressure to dump him.

Now you guys see the light, but it’s probably too late. Leafs things.

Edit. Lol you downvote because you hate that you were all up on dubas’ nuts.

  20. clapperssailing

2 forwards and old man and a little puke. I believe the vomit goes this summer.

  21. GoblinStats

Honest question, what’s the next highest team for their top 4 paid players? Or, what team utilized 53% the best?

  22. AdministrativeMind86

Fuck the big 4 all we need is 34

  23. Mulder1562

You add in Rielly and it’s 61.7% locked up in to 5 players. Leaving us 38.3% to fill out the rest of the roster.

  24. ddarion

I don’t know how many times you guys need to be beat over the head with this, but the fact that 3 of the 4 best forwards the leafs have had in the past 40 years are all on the roster at the same time, ISNT why were losing guys lol

Holy fuck I hate it here

  25. DEAD___P00L

    Fun!

I say they ride it out this year. Extend Marner, let Tavares walk, or sign for less than $2 million.

    Thoughts?

  26. bismuth21

Stamkos had it right when he implied the core 4 put themselves ahead of team success by being greedy.

  27. blakezed

it’s gonna be whole offseason of slightly different versions of this same post isn’t it?

  28. Slow-Juice-7257

This is kinda a dumb thread tbh, last year of mitch and JT deal. This is likely the peak of this situation happening on a math basis assuming Mitch is resigned and JT takes 1/2 to 2/3 discount.

Hypothetically speaking it would be dumb to jetson out Mitch and keep Tavares from an age standpoint alone. We are Team building.. Tavares skating is gonna go full Jason Allison in the next 2-3 years. I’d rather keep Mitch, sign JT for 1/2 the price and kill off the combined salary of jarnkrok + kampff for a 5M forward

  29. Big_Albatross_3050

uhhhhh why does the cap have to exist?

More good players should be a good thing, not basically a way that punishes good drafting and forces teams to either throw away having a balanced roster or pay their stars what they’re worth

  30. Cal_Takes_Els

Fuck shanny, fuck Lou, fuck dubas. What an absolute retard way to build a hockey team.

  31. potshed420

As if the drop off is from 10 million to 2 lol

  32. thinkfast37

I would have loved to be a fly on the wall for that Marner – Berube coffee chat

  33. Zealousideal_Shop446

Based off what I’ve heard Marner likely isn’t getting dealt. Hasn’t even submitted or worked on a list of teams

  34. Interesting-Effect56

This math is the math projected when Dubas signed all 4 initially.

They will be 45m this year then assuming JT takes a pay cut probably around 39-42 next year.

If Marner stays I doubt he gets much of a raise as he would still be adequately compensated for his production. His biggest argument would be longer track record of production than Nylander and has a two way game which Nylander does not.

    24′ stats

    Marner season 1.2 pt/g + 21 3:21 sh toi/g 23 min/g in 69 games
    Playoff 0.4 p/g +1 3:57 sh too/g 26min/g in 7 games

    Nylander 1.19 pts/g +1 0:58 shtoo/g 19:55 min/g in 82 games
    Playoff 0.7 p/g +2 0:00 sh/g 21:44min/g in 4 games

It would not be hard for Marners camp to argue a raise based on Nylanders new contract, so while I hope his contract $$$ stays the same he may take a few million out of the cut JT takes.

TBF JT taking a pay cut is an assumption not a guarantee either. He’s still a very good player who had bad luck mixed with a winger who plays no defense or puck retrieval.

  35. TheUpwardSpiralDown

This might be the first season I don’t watch

  36. Mashdrop

“Okay but this time will be different.”

  37. AggravatingType9012

2 of them have to go or take sufficient pay cuts

  38. Boner_Patrol_007

    This is embarrassing roster construction.

  39. Ta-veren-

My goodness that JT contract sucks right now.

Curious I’m new to hockey why don’t they like level contracts at al? Like they had to know JT and even Willy won’t be a 11 mil player in 6 years. Why don’t they do something like 11 mil for three years, 7 for the next, 5 mil for the next year etc

  40. funghi2

I’d like to shop around but might be best to just ride it out one more year. Should say if they trade Marner.

  41. Big-Peak6191

They will just do nothing then lose Marner for nothing in a year.

  42. braveheart2019

    Top 4 forwards: Almost 47M

Next 3 highest paid forwards: 5.85M
