Is the Lady Byng even a good trophy to win? I feel like we all know by now that to win in the playoffs you need to be at least a bit of an asshole. The last Lady Byng winner to win a Stanley Cup in the same season was Datsyuk in 2008, and the only player to win the award and go to the finals since him was William Karlsson in 2018.

As a Devils fan, insane that Highes is getting any votes. I’m not saying they aren’t warranted, but he has at least 3 scrappy moments / tantrums with the officials every season. I like to see the edge in his game flare up like that, but it should definitely exclude him from Byng votes.

I’m so glad someone out there supported my “Sharangovich for Lady Byng” agenda. The guy takes very few penalties, and on the rare occasions he does trip or high stick opponents, he’s been known to go over and apologize. When his frustration got the better of him and he flipped off the Slovakian bench at worlds a few years ago, he quickly and profusely apologized on social media for the gesture.
Also, he’s very quick to break up scrums and/or attempt to talk guys down when tempers start to flare. It’s actually kind of funny (and also sweet).
