Journalists get just as tired of having to think up original questions for sports people with minimal social skills as sports people do of being asked those questions. The reporter wasn't questioning their character, which is a fact, and DeMoron's opinion that they were is wrong and doesn’t matter anyway. Also, "I hAvEn'T sEeN yOu HeRe AlL yEaR" – such a genius quip by DeMoron – because it's impossible to have followed his team unless you've attended their postgame pressers, right?
