@Maple Leafs de Toronto

    Perfect now Marner can ask for $15 million

    Leafs’ money is already gone, right? Matthews raise, Nylander raise.

    Just be wary, the NHL is not getting $500m/ year on the next Canadian deal.

  4. Paul Marner just bolted upright in a Muskoka guesthouse

    Nice increase. The pay disparity between the top NHL players and top players in other leagues is pretty ridiculous considering how difficult the sport can be on their bodies so hopefully it can keep trending upwards.

    For the Leafs it’s nice that they have a few longer deals just starting so they don’t have to worry about negotiating in this new cap environment for guys like Nylander and Matthews.

    By the time Willy’s deal is half over there will be a lot more guys making more than him that make his deal look better, such is the nature of long contracts in a cap league (when the cap is actually going up, as it should).

    That’s almost perfectly eaten up by the Nylander extension.

    So with the Matthews extension on top of that the Leafs are going to be even more pressed for cap space due to the « core 4 » than they were last season.
