I hear you, I can see the need for the AGM role to be filled. If anything, the round table is still short a knight. But I also think this whole argument is a bit of a trope. Of course the egghead analytics guy is incapable of making a fruit salad without tomatoes in it, he's the analytics guy! Yet, if we can all see that there are some intangibles, or hard to quantify assets that are good, if not necessary for your team to be successful, I don't see why Tulsky is somehow less aware of that than others.
I also feel like this argument never goes the other way, when they hire the former coach or player as GM, no one sits around saying, "but what about the analytics! Surely this meathead needs to balance the effort guys with the xGf% leaders!" Which maybe shows a bias that we probably don't need. Can Tulsky do the job well? Let's find out instead of assuming he's got a huge blind spot to anything which isn't on a spreadsheet.
