I think him leaving and Tkachuk leaving are for very similar reasons: Culture. Once Iggy left the culture shifted away from shift disturbers and he didn’t fit in with the smooth, ‘softer,’ skaters.
I compare him to RNH. A flashy start that showed a lot of promise, some down years and then just getting it and turning into a reliable two way centre. The Oilers stuck it out with him (even after giving up on their other first over all selections) and he is a core piece for the team now. Sometimes you just have to patient and not force anything.
And then they traded for Huberdeau. Ironically Bennet and Huberdeau where killing it on the same line in Florida. Bennett's arrival was the reason Huberdeau stopped playing with Barkov and would still produce like crazy.
The Flames system is the problem. Same with the Canucks. Stop trying to turn elite players into checkers and let them do what they were drafted for. You think fans wanted Boeser to score less and check more? Same with Bennett. These garbage systems ruin the game. The same reason why the world Junior teams are never the teams with the CHL’s highest scorers, but are full of “character” players. Canada’s hockey ‘minds’ have ruined the game by overthinking it and taking out the excitement. These idiots would rather lose 1-0 than win 8-6
I know! If only they knew he was aware that you could cross check the player defending you causing him to crash into his goaltender then score a goal.
besides bob – bennett has been one of the most consistent on ice player this playoff. tkachuk has been quieter this go around but presence definitely felt with his leadership.
Lomberg is one of our biggest character players and he was a Flame as well.
That Tkachuk trade, to me, looked at first like a bad deal for Florida. Huberdeau and Weegar going seemed like an overpay. Tkachuk looked like he only had a career year while Huberdeau was on the uprise.
And then… 2022-23 happened…
What’s your opinion of Filip Zadina. Ngl I was pumped when he dropped to the wings at 6 even though I was expecting them to pick Quinn Hughes. But obviously things haven’t really worked out. Do you think zadina could’ve lived up to the hype if he was on those awful Detroit teams?
Never forget eighteen year old Sam Bennett.😂😂
I always remember his last playoffs with us he was widely viewed as the only player that tried. Have to give him credit for that.
Cuz Sam Bennett was a lazy fcuk in Calgary
w vid
As a leafs fan I know why but why did the leafs give up Zach Hymen
I know why. Because Flames management is stupid. They've pissed away so many talented individuals. It's no coincidence so many of them seem to shine outside of the Flames organization. At this point it can't be the player anymore. It's the organization. – Sincerely, from a Flames fan.
I remember pickin up Bennett INSTANTLY to my fantasy team when he was traded to the panthers and winning that round handidly.
How? because you can't predict the future. you can B and whine from your seat looking backwards, but that's still not a skill.
Bennett isn't complaining , life in sunny Florida with no state taxes or life in weathery Calgary , with Canadian taxes .
He's nothing like Gilmour. Zero class.
People online really tried to say the puck in that first clip didn't go in…
Zitto has a real talent for seeing plays with insane potential that just need a small push I mean look at his track record with the cats most of his sings dudes on wavers , fourth liners and players “past there prime” all of them turned into massive peace’s in the panthers success
The Panthers pro scouts deserve a hell of a lot of credit. And it's a shame Bill Zito didn't win GM of the year – that's ok…. he has a bigger trophy in mind.
I watched Bennett all through his Calgary days and sometimes he was there and sometimes he wasn't. By the end, it was more often he wasn't there. After a while, I came to see Bennett more as a Cal Clutterbuck type than a big scorer/skill player you might expect from a #4 pick, and that's pretty much what he's turned out to be, but with a little more offense. Nothing wrong with that, but since it wasn't what people were looking for in Calgary, he was always going to be a disappointment to them.
Legend has it he can’t do one pull up tho
Damn thats crazy, Canadaian teams fans putting ao much on star players they go to an American team and reach the finals or become champions? I've NEVER heard that one before!
I’m laughing so hard all Johnny and all these flames fans cucking themselves over Florida right now. No of them wanted to be flames, just remember that.
Flames in a 10 year rebuild phase with Huberdeau at 11 million now.
It's a good video. BUT, the bottom line is: If someone (Bennett) leaves your team,
and has IMMEDIATE success elsewhere, the problem is YOUR TEAM.
Mr Hawkey they sighned Hubie for 8 years at 10.5 nothing they do should surprise you.
Do jarred mccann, he went from a floater to a 40 goal scorer with Seattle
As an Irishman from a country with no connection to hockey, i thoroughly enjoy watching these videos and learning all about such an awesome sport!
Sam didn't wanna stay in Calgary
"How could the Flames let these guys go?" Easy. Mismanagement. Also, Bennet quit on Calgary.
there has been more ex flames player with playoff appearances in the last 3 years than the flames have made the playoffs in the last 15 😂
he doesnt have a single 50 points season. Why are we acting like Sam Bennett isnt a bust at 4th Overall?
Can you do Kucherov?
I haven't watched the video yet, but the answer is already easy. Sometimes people need to change to get to where they are going. It may have never worked in Calgary. Different systems coaches teamates everything we wont know unless we can go back in time and do it again.
Dougie Gilmour would be ashamed he i spired this rat
The Panthers are really what the Flames org was gunning for as a franchise. Oh the irony.
They had enough cheap-shot artists already, I guess.
He's a joke
A change of scenery is not a valid reason. Coaching is a reason!
I remember his first games in Florida. He was immediately stapled as a 2C next to Huberdeau. Panthers had a hole in the lineup after Trocheck trade and tried to play Wennberg there, but he was "too vanilla"
I wish nothing but the best for Bennett and Tkachuk as a Flames fan. It's not their fault we're one of the worst managed teams in hockey. Watching them crush the Oilers hopes and dreams has been fun
