Devils gave up very little. That 1st is Protected too. Poor Calgary. Didn’t have much of a choice I guess

  2. Rickcinyyc

As long as there’s no retention, it’s about what I expected.

Marky is solid dude. Good luck to him facing east shooters. No more McJesus. Yay.

  4. DisplacedNovaScotian

    Lol, Calgary is so fucked.

  5. Petillionaire

    I’m getting Cory Schneider flashbacks

    Aahh, Sportsnet

“The Flames are receiving defenceman Kevin Bahl and a top-10 protected 2025 pick in return for the 24-year-old.”

Let Markstrom get close to the Hughes’ borthers and advertise how great Vancouver was to him

Pretty even trade imo. I wouldn’t say Calgary got fleeced? Markstrom has 2 years left, is 34 and has declined a fair bit the past 2 years imo. 30% retention maybe swings it slightly New Jersey’s way but goalies never get as much in trades as everyone thinks. I don’t rate Jersey that hard and don’t see the pick being that high. Mid first and a young D is a decent return

  9. Calgary is so gone lol. Top guy is 10.5M dollar man Jonathan Huberdeau

TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger reports defenceman Kevin Bahl and a 2025 first-round pick are headed back to Calgary in the deal. The first-rounder is top-10 protected.

Happy to see Marky go to a good team, this makes a ton of sense for NJD.

I don’t hate the return too much for Calgary, who seems to be going for quantity over quality and more of a retool than a rebuild. Bahl is an intriguing piece, and seems like a guy who could have some 2nd pairing upside.

I wonder if the Flames are running with Wolf as their 1A starter now then. It’s a pretty big gamble for a 23 YO with 18 NHL games even if he was amazing in the AHL.

Calgary must have been so toxic

  14. Jupiter_101

That seems like kind of a bad return. They should have not retained at least.

Wonder if he regrets not signing with oilers 😟

New Jersey Devils fans will be cheering in the streets when they hear about this. I hope you know what you are doing.

Man, the devils are going to be so good. I’m happy for Marky

Devils fans should prepare for watching Marky let in the first goal on the first shot OR not tending the goal with his sometimes crazy plays.

Just get it over with, lets take page from oilers books, tank dead last for a few season to get some talent to build around lol. Knowing our luck they will all be terrible draft years 😛

This is fine for Calgary. They’re not making any noise for the next few years and getting any value at all out of Marky is a win. The first is going to be mid to late as NJ should be much better this year than last. Bahl tops out as a middle pairing D if everything goes his way.

  21. dattroll123

it’s a 34 year old goalie with a NMC. Everyone is going to low ball the flames. At best NJ will only get 1 good season out of him. The return isn’t that bad.

  22. MustardSpaghetti

Look how you massacred my boy Calgary

The tradition of strong Canucks goaltenders playing in New Jersey continues:

    Kirk McLean

    Corey Schneider

    Jacob Markstrom
