Go devils
Still, rationalize all you want. NJ got a great deal here, Connroy's first L on the trade market IMO.
Nice for the Devils. Not really for the Flames.
I understand Markstrom prime is behind him and he has been alarmingly regressing over the last 2 seasons, but there was more to get for him especially if you retain almost 1/3 of his salary 😂.
Looks good on Calgary the new san Jose sharks of the nhl 😂😂😂😂😂 see u in the playoffs in about ten years
Conroy needs to convince ownership to let him deal with Toronto, Brad would have paid way more for all of these trades he's had to make
Bahl & a first is a FLEECE
What is Fitzy thinking?
Watch him have a .915 save percentage on New Jersey.
The offseason is the only time of the year NJD are winning for 20 years now.
Calgary got a first round pick. The pick could be as high as 11th or as low as 32. Split the difference and you are probably going to be close. Also got a young (in NHL experience) roster player to fill one of the slots left by the defensemen they traded last year. He averaged 17.5 minutes per game on Jersey after Hamilton got hurt and acquitted himself well.
What did NJ get in Markstrom? At 34 who knows? He could return to Vezina finalist form or regress back to the Jakob Markstrom who posted an .892 SA% two years ago. His game could even fall off a cliff.
Because of the uncertainty, NJ assumed a fair amount of risk in this deal and got a player who is only under contract for two seasons. 11th overall and Dawson Mercer were never realistic targets for Markstrom with 30% retained imo. That is way too steep.
Markstrom's performance next year will go a long way in determining how the deal is perceived beyond his contract. But as of right now, this seems pretty fair to me.
