Considering the bar was the 10th ov pick for some, those ppl are  going to be disappointed. Nevertheless, I think it’s a great return for a 34 yr old goalie.

  2. berto_14

Anyone thinking Markstrom was ever going to land a top-10 pick was out of their minds

  3. GrafNebelgeist

    Wonder if there is retention?

Anyway, solid deal. Flames with major cap space.

  4. BadMeatSweats

Would have been nice to get another prospect back.

  5. TheWalkingHyperbole

Young dman and 1st round pick for a hot-and-cold 34-year-old goalie making 6 mill and with a NMC? Not bad. HUGE cap space and frees the net to give to Wolf.

  6. How many 3rd pairing defensemen is Conroy gonna trade for ffs

  7. Help-me-name-my-pup

Anyone know the story on Kevin Bahl?

  8. tSchab3r

No retention makes it a good deal

NVM: Apparently there’s some retention ….

  9. dalkride

Kevin Bahl is 6’6 and averaged a penalty every other game last season. Was a +1 over 82 games with 11 points. Consider me fucking whelmed

Lindholm trade aside, it feels like all of Conny’s trades when I see the returns for them, my overriding sentiment is “its missing an extra asset”.

I don’t mind the pieces individually, but I always seem to feel like Conny could have tried to get 1 more thing. Although maybe I have u realistic expectations for trades, lol.

I like this for multiple reasons

    1) Markstrom wanted out

    2) Full NMC

    3) He’s 34

    4) Bahl is like 23 and has been playing middle pairing minutes from what I have gathered. Huska has been pumping out great D men for almost a decade for the Flames, so giving him the chance to add some polish to a young, capable player is exciting.

    5) Conroy keeps trading for players that people bitch about, and then they get to Calgary and there’s a line to stroke him off.

    6) Would have been nice to get a pick for this year, but a 2025 first isn’t too bad because it gives us the chance to make those 8 picks in the first 4 rounds this year and assess what we need next year.

    7) Pick probably would have been in a similar range if we had traded Markstrom at the deadline because NJ is 100% in the playoffs this year with him.

  12. It’s not a bad return but I’m still disappointed thanks to the entire Flames sphere hyping up Markstrom+ for 10 overall for a month straight.

Also this is exhausting sometimes. “Markstrom is amazing he’s going to return a king’s ransom” at the deadline, followed by a bunch of “a low 1st is a great return for a 34 year old goalie.” It’s probably different people but man does it ever feel like the fanbase is constantly in cope mode.

This feels really unbalanced tbh, the Devils get everything they want out of this deal and it feels like we settle for scraps when we’re RETAINING. I have faith in Conny but these last few moves are a bit puzzling.

  14. jaicecreambar

At least we are seeing that ownership is willing to eat money. Could come in handy with all this cap space we have.

  15. rothtravo

Bahl so hard, mothercluckers wanna fine me.

  16. das_racist932

First is good, Bahl is mid. A little disappointed with the player in return but can’t be too upset at a first from a team that finished out of the playoffs.

Bahl is $1.1M AAV so flames still have an abundance of Caproom to do something with.

Who knows maybe Conroys plan is to roll out 5 D? But it would be nice to get a young exciting forward with one of our 0 remaining trade chips!

  17. lastlatvian

Pretty good trade, #1 you can’t teach size, and he’s a young d-man who has good upsides, and devils fans liked him (also he’s a Canadian). #2 a goalie with a NMC, on a non-competitive team for a 1st is a good return.

Everyone here needs to relax and let Conny cook, it’s going to be a very long off-season if people over analyze ever move, before players even play the pre-season.

  18. uncleiroh19

Top ten protected 1st rounder in 2025

    Retained 30% salary

Honestly, return seems a little light. Would’ve hoped you could extract one more additional asset if you were retaining salary.

  19. G-Swanky

Hey Sharangovich was a great steal from NJ. Maybe our staff have scouted the Devils quite a lot and see something they really like in Bahl. I am hopeful!

  20. GreatJman

Why does everyone think Bahl will grow into some sort of Stud Dman? There’s enough body of work to see what you’re getting. Big-bodied solid stay-at-home D without much offensive addition. He did lay out a ton of hits and blocked shots last year, so there’s that.

  21. Straight-Plate-5256

I’m slightly disappointed with top 10 protection on the pick *and* retention, but overall not a bad return for a 34YO goalie. We got a 1st and bahl can still turn into a reasonably solid defensive D man on us

  22. ValorFenix

    Asked this in another post:

So would it change to an unprotected 2026 if their 2025 is top 10? If so… it is Gavin McKenna’s draft year…

  23. jnags6570

what does the top 10 protected pick turn into if devils are bad next year?

  24. GriefPB

So we lose a Ball and gain a Bahl. I’ll take it
